Will the TV have better compatibility and proper frame rate playback as Naiera mentioned? Only problem playing thru TV is I'd have to go with the TV speakers instead of my audio system, but I think I could run an optical cable to the receiver and alleviate that issue

I don't want to buy another piece of hardware just to play a few files but thx for the help guys

TVs can be hit or miss as well. You don't have an AVR with EARC or ARC?

My connection method is a little odd, I use dual connection for the player as my receiver doesn't support Dolby Vision and I'm using the other full bandwidth port on the TV for the Directv>receiver connection. The eARC is not full bandwidth, altho I don't really need it for Directv I guess so I could use it for that connection. I barely play things thru the TV, occasionally use one of the apps on it so don't really care about having sound thru the audio system.

I'm gonna try the TV USB port and see how it works, might change to the eARC port or just run an optical, it's gonna be lossy audio anyways thru the TV right?

I wouldn’t bet on a TV playing back files well at all, but one can always try.

Well the USB drive with the 38G file took a cr@pper and wont even register on my computer, think I'm gonna give up on this just downloading the movie was a hassle and took a couple of days due to internet speed and network errors while downloading.

So, just to follow up on this problem, idk why, but I decided to do the hard reset after reading the process on here (yellow, blue, ok button for & sec, etc.).

I’ve 0 hangups, 0 freezes and 0 “F99” errors pop up on the display. I’ve turned on all my equipment in various orders, switched inputs on the home theater System and back again. 0 errors.

I honestly wouldn’t have thought a hard reset would actually fix all my errors & issues.

So thank you to all who posted various ways to fix different issues. You ever know when some small input will be of great help! That’s why I love this die I’m over any other.

Is there a way of going frame by frame on this player? I used to be able to do it on my old Philips Blu-ray player, but can't work it out on this.

Yup. That's one of the main reasons why I kept my Sony X700. I can just plug my 4GB external into the USB port and directly play files (avi, mkv, m2ts, etc). It's how I'm able to watch 4K77 and 4K83 directly on my A80J. And they look amazing.

There should be a button, but I don't think you can go in reverse.

Most Blu-ray players one pushes the pause button, then when in pause mode one uses the left and right scanning buttons to do slow motion scanning or frame by frame. But each Blu-ray player is a little different when navigating slow motion reverse and forward. The owners manual will help you.

The right arrow on the D pad is supposed to do frame by frame but it only works for a few frames in my experience

That's good to know I still have my X700, I had a 1TB thumb drive as the 4K77 file was 38G how did you fit the files on a 4G external drive?

LOLL so I DEFINITELY meant to say 2TB external, I dunno where the F I got 4GB from. I actually do have a 4TB external as well, but the X700 won't read from an external HDD that's bigger than 2TB, so that one's mostly for storage, and anything I wanna watch on my TV I just transfer to the 2TB and plug it into my X700. Because yeah lol, the 4K77 file I have on my external is like 90GB. I can't find a way for subtitles to work though while watching an MKV through the X700, so that is one of the drawbacks. And it won't recognize Dolby TrueHD audio from an MKV either so if that's the only audio track, you're f*cked.

Slow motion backwards (reverse) should work on Blu-ray 3D discs, Blu-ray discs, and DVD discs. At least it does on the OPPO UDP-203. However all or most 4K Blu-ray players are not able to do slow motion reverse with native 4K Blu-ray discs (in theory the next generation of 4K Blu-ray players will solve this issue, maybe 8K Blu-ray in 2026+ will fix this issue also when playing 4K Blu-ray discs).

I doubt we'll see a new physical format or players.

agreed. People are already happy with digital, and compression and download speeds are both only going to get better.

LOL, yeah, there sure as heck isn’t going to be a 8K Blu-ray format. No one needs that much resolution in a home video source.
