it will not play any of the lossless audio tracks. These include DolbyTrue HD, DTSMA-HD and Dolby Atmos. It will play lossy audio tracks (Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1 or DTS 5.1/7.1).

If the output is via spdif, will the UB9000 convert Dolby TureHD, DTSMA-DH and Dolby Atmos to lossy PCM (ie. 16bit 44.1/48khz)?

PCM is uncompressed (lossless).

If you're talking about file playback then it won't recognise the lossless audio in the file, period. Besides, optical (spdif) can only support PCM up to 2.0, it doesn't have the bandwidth for 5.1/7.1 PCM.

Hey guys so just plugged up my 820 and 4k LG 50uk60 for the first time and popped in the first mission impossible. As my first 4k experience it was thrilling. However I had an issue I wanted to run by the forum. First and foremost I turned Trumotion off first thing. I hate the soap opera effect more than anything in the world. I continued to watch the first act and feel like there was still 15-20% soap opera effect still going on. So I jumped back into the LG settings and found “real cinema” which sounds like something I would like as I assume it forces 24 FPS, but when I turned it off, things seem to get better and seem more filmic like motion. Any advice to why this happened? Is there a setting in the player that can combat this? Am I the only one who thinks Real Cinema still carries a slight soap opera effect? Please keep in mind until now, I’ve been watching the same Samsung Plasma since 2008 and have always loved the way it handles motion.

Quite right. When I had an OPPO 203, I sent the downconverted 16bit 44.1/48khz PCM stream via the spdif output to my DAC. spdif will not output anything higher from a blu-ray or UHD disc.

If it doesn't recognize high resolution lossless audio, that's a deal breaker. I "listen" to a movie using a stereo DAC, so 2.0 channels aren't an issue for me.

Had the same lockup last night after doing the update.

I turn on the player, "welcome!" appears on the front display and then it just freezes. Have to disconnect the power and then try again. If this keeps happening I'll have to contact Panasonic about it (bought it directly from them).

Updated my UB820 probably a week ago, so far so good. Big Lebowski UHD was quite noisy though but it subsided after a while. Felt like sitting close to a Projector lol.

Still regretting selling my UB-700 for just £60. Wish I had kept it as it could have been easier to do A-B comparisons.

Anyone have any advice before I try this again tonight? Should I keep real cinema off or turn it back on and maybe turn dejudder to 0? Geoff, I would love to hear your thoughts as well as anyone who wants to chime in.

It's tough to say, you may just be so used to the 60Hz motion from the plasma that you prefer a similar refresh rate on the LG rather than the 24fps cadence. In any case, there's going to be an adjustment period when moving from plasma to LCD as they have very different motion handling.

I was under the impression plasma always had 120hz and that was an upper hand they had on LCD. It just feels like when I watch movies in a theater the motion feels like it dies on my plasma. Maybe I’m crazy? Idk

Plasma 120Hz? Nah. If it said that on the box then it was the usual marketing bollox. They did have an inherent difference to LCD motion in general, drawing and refreshing each frame individually while LCD uses sample and hold technology.

Ok well I guess I’ll mess with some settings till I get close enough and try to adjust over time. Which will be hard because I often still watch movies on the plasma depending what’s going on in the house guest wise. Anyway thanks for responding and giving a little guidence, it’s always very appreciated.

There is a difference between REFRESH RATE and FRAME RATE.

REFRESH RATE of a panel can go to gabazilion Hz but if the input maxes at 60 Hz, then the output is still at 60 hz.
