You NEVER want to use CAT6/balun as they will lossy-compress the video data.

As reported by Japanese publication Newswitch — and spotted by Digicame Info — Akira Toyoshima, the president of Panasonic, says that the company is shifting away from some existing television and camera businesses that are not showing signs of growing significantly moving forward.

These divisions are not faring as well as others due to what Toyoshima says is the rapid progress of Chinese and Korean companies and the spread of smartphones. The company did not disclose specific figures.

We're not suggesting folks make their own leads out of their cable bins leftovers, but no matter how much your telly cost there's no need to go nuts.

We're still getting played like we used to during the analogue days and there's no real need.

Yeah. I was kinda shocked. All of their stuff is affordable now. They still make some high end stuff but the basic cables are good and priced appropriately now.

Sales are still pushing their £80 cables in the UK for unsuspecting customers.

There are times that even HDMI 2.1 certified cable can’t even pass 4K60. I was testing a certified 2.1 cable and run 4K/60 from Kscape directly to projector. Every now and then the signal blinked for a very quick flash. Changed the cable with different brand, playing the exact same thing there was zero hiccup.

That “faulty” cable when tested using Murideo actually passed 18 gbps so in theory it should pass 4K/60. But the reality is that sometimes it can and sometimes it can’t.

So no, not only “works or doesn’t work”. There are in-between areas where if you don’t think it’s the cable you’d think there is something wrong with the components in the chain.

I've had similar things happen, those cables go in the, "Don't work!" bin.

It depends on the device and the required category cable. No, I wouldn't get one that lossy encodes the video.

There is not a single one that is lossless when doing 4K HDR 10 bit. At best you’ll get 2:1 lossy compression on the video. Sadly this is marketed as “visually lossless” by the manufacturers.

Recently started having trouble with my 820. It's become noisy when reading discs and the discs will randomly start to glitch with both picture and audio at random points throughout different movies. I'm worried it's a problem without an easy fix and given I'm out of warranty, I really don't want to have to spend the money to replace it. I've only had it for over a year and a half, and it's extremely aggravating. I also have a PS5 and Sony X800 M2 but the Panasonic is clearly the best option out of the 3 and I'd hate to lose it.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but it's probably the laser. It's a common problem on Panasonics. Especially if it plays DVDs without any problems.

That's definitely not supposed to be happening I don't see how it could be true; must be a bug in your TVs info menu thing.

I'd use a $0.50 HDMI cable from an Oppo BDP-203 to a 83" Panasonic OLED if it did the job.

Even then run those inside large low voltage conduit.
I'm actually using a 40' non-hybrid passive cable, believe it or not. It's not quite 18Gbps; it's like 16.2 or some shit. Not sure what QED thought they were doing there, but it works in my setup. 4K60 works when my scaler dithers the output down to 4:2:0.

Like I said before, people go out and buy an expensive, luxurious $2,000-$3,000+ 4K and 8K TV to impress, and then go dumpster diving trying to find a free, or the cheapest HDMI cable in world and pay $3.00 or less for it.

I thought so too, so I've connected Panny direct to LG, and no such thing happen. Maybe marantz added something during passthrough, though it shouldn't because all onscreen options are turned off.

I don't undertand why the price arguments for both sides have to be extreme. My advice, just get official UHD certified (with the barcode) cables and call it a day.

Going full cheapo may cause handshaking and snowflake issues. Going expensive without certification is just a waste and all snake oil. Cough, audioquest and monster etc. Stay away from that garbage and malpractice. If they were video game developers, they'd be pushing pay for service features and loot grinding.

Have you checked your discs for scratches in good lighting? Usually the Panasonic will get loud if it's having trouble reading a scratch and will glitch out. If it's not a scratch, it's unforutnately probably the laser going out. I've thrown 100s of discs at mine but it can happen. Lots of moving parts in these things which makes me fear for the future.

It's definitely not the discs as it's happened on a number of them and the same ones play fine on my PS5 and X800-M2. If it is the laser, that's pretty aggravating since I've only had it for a little over a year and a half. Before this, the player has been great and a major step up from my X800-M2. It's ridiculous to spend money on a premium player you expect to last years and have it go out in such little time.
