It has zero effect on HDMI audio output. It's only meant for the analog connections.

I do keep it on but only so I can turn off the front display when playing a movie.

You don't need 2.1 cables for these 4k disc players.
I’m also looking at getting the 820 and I just want to make sure I’m looking at the same thing you’re talking about:

Something like the above would work for the 820?

If your blu-ray player is set to automatic updates, you shouldn't have to update the firmware manually when needed. The player will update the firmware automatically from the internet over Wi-Fi, whenever a new firmware update is available. If you're player is set to automatic updates, you don't have to worry about updating it.

Personally, I wouldn't buy and use a cheap $7.00 HDMI cable for a $1,700.00+ 4K TV that I had invested in. HDMI cables don't need to be very expensive, but at least they should be halfway decent quality. That's like buying a Porche (a $100,000 car) and putting cheap, unleaded regular gasoline in it.

Those cables are fine (used several for years in different lengths, for various HDMI connections, including PC).

If it helps for peace of mind, they're even HDMI certified, with the whole hologram thing you can check online to confirm they're legit.

These are good, and they're priced accordingly to the length.

For a short run, you don't need anything more than that for a UHD Blu-ray player. With any digital cable, it either works or it doesn't and you either get no signal or a bunch of digital hash noise in the picture. I've even bought "premium" priced cables that didn't work as intended.

But it's not, because so long as the HDMI cable is working, it's as good as any other HDMI cable. Either it works or it doesn't. Sure maybe some of the more expensive options might last longer, but I've had many years out of my basic $10 ones.

still experimenting with your setting. in you video you say that it should be set to YCbCr 4:4:4 and not Automatic.

The thing is that I saw in Mad Max Fury Road - when it's forced YCbCr 4:4:4 - it gives 24hz, but when it's in automatic it still outputs 4:4:4, but gives correct 23.97hz

[Show spoiler]
YCbCr 4:4:4

automatic

On Crouching Tiger it does exactly opposite. And on some discs (Tenet) it doesn't change. Damn, my OCD is killing me.

Just because a cable is working doesn't mean you're getting the best performance from it for your TV. I'm quite sure if somebody had purchased a $1,700-$2,000 4K TV, they would want a good quality HDMI cable to go with it. You can't half step.

Don’t argue with the troll, as usual he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s a digital cable, it either works or doesn’t there’s no visual/audio difference between a $10 or $200 cable.

All you need is a certified cable from a reliable brand. All that means is that it's guaranteed to match the requirements/bandwith to carry the full HDMI spec.

If you go super cheap, you might have handshake and cut out issues.

Monoprice has been around for a long time now and while cheap, they mass produce cables and make quality stuff.

If you don't want to wait, Walmart carries Monster high speed cables for 9.99-12.99. I've used them for years without any problems at all.

Makes no difference with digital signals. The only reason to spend more is for length or durability of the connection. Just make sure they're certified for the job you need them for.

This alone would make it worth it.

You guys are willing to spend $2,000.00 on a high end 4K TV, but want to pinch pennies and go cheap buying a $3.00 HDMI cable to go with it. No what's up with that!

The only time you want to make sure you have a really good piece of cable is a long run to a projector. Often times that requires a hybrid HDMI cable if 15 feet or greater and sometimes you need a fiber optic or CAT balun conversion system and those can be more spendy. Even then run those inside large low voltage conduit.

For 1-6 foot lengths something like Monoprice certified cables will be just fine. Pay much more and you are wasting money.

Yeah that’s crazy that monster makes affordable cables nowadays, they used to rip people off back in the day with their way overpriced cables.

My TV cost me £3300. I use cables that either came with the gear (Pannysonic included one with the 820) or ones that I've had for years, my main set of IXOS ones cost about £30 new, are well over 10 years old and have never given me a day's trouble even when piping 4K60 Dolby Vision into my TV.

Yes, longer runs need to ensure repeatability of the signal so aren't worth cheaping out on, but if people aren't needing 15 metres or whatever then low price cables are fine. Maybe steer clear of the cheapest of the cheap, but people spending hundreds on individual cables have more money than sense.
