If your blu-ray player is set to automatic updates, you shouldn't have to update the firmware manually when needed. The player will update the firmware automatically from the internet over Wi-Fi, whenever a new firmware update is available. If you're player is set to automatic updates, you don't have to worry about updating it.

If it helps for peace of mind, they're even HDMI certified, with the whole hologram thing you can check online to confirm they're legit. Last edited by ij72; 11-22-2022 at 05:09 PM. Reason: Spelling! |

These are good, and they're priced accordingly to the length.

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=24187 For a short run, you don't need anything more than that for a UHD Blu-ray player. With any digital cable, it either works or it doesn't and you either get no signal or a bunch of digital hash noise in the picture. I've even bought "premium" priced cables that didn't work as intended. |

The thing is that I saw in Mad Max Fury Road - when it's forced YCbCr 4:4:4 - it gives 24hz, but when it's in automatic it still outputs 4:4:4, but gives correct 23.97hz [Show spoiler] On Crouching Tiger it does exactly opposite. And on some discs (Tenet) it doesn't change. Damn, my OCD is killing me. Last edited by MarkGubarenko; 11-22-2022 at 07:03 PM. |

Just because a cable is working doesn't mean you're getting the best performance from it for your TV. I'm quite sure if somebody had purchased a $1,700-$2,000 4K TV, they would want a good quality HDMI cable to go with it. You can't half step.

Don’t argue with the troll, as usual he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s a digital cable, it either works or doesn’t there’s no visual/audio difference between a $10 or $200 cable.

All you need is a certified cable from a reliable brand. All that means is that it's guaranteed to match the requirements/bandwith to carry the full HDMI spec.
If you go super cheap, you might have handshake and cut out issues. Monoprice has been around for a long time now and while cheap, they mass produce cables and make quality stuff. If you don't want to wait, Walmart carries Monster high speed cables for 9.99-12.99. I've used them for years without any problems at all. |

Makes no difference with digital signals. The only reason to spend more is for length or durability of the connection. Just make sure they're certified for the job you need them for.

For 1-6 foot lengths something like Monoprice certified cables will be just fine. Pay much more and you are wasting money. |

Yes, longer runs need to ensure repeatability of the signal so aren't worth cheaping out on, but if people aren't needing 15 metres or whatever then low price cables are fine. Maybe steer clear of the cheapest of the cheap, but people spending hundreds on individual cables have more money than sense. |
