I'm assuming you're playing the 4K disc, and not the Blu Ray that also comes with the package? If so, that must mean that there's some other issue with the discs that aren't related to the player. Maybe there was a run of them that went out to different retailers that were bad then?

I'll have to double check the firmware version of the player, but that date sounds about right as to when I remember the last update coming through.

Well, yes; it'd make little sense to play the regular Blu-ray in a UHD Blu-ray player. Since it's a Well Go USA release, there's a pretty good chance it wouldn't play in my German 824 anyway. It's the exact same player, except for the number.

Well Go's Ip Man BDs are all region-free, or at least A/B compatible.

Since you're not using a U.S. player, are you watching the Well Go USA 4K release (4K release being region free)? If not, that could possibly account for the reason it's working fine for you. At this point, I'm just trying to narrow down any of the variables to try to establish whether I should return this movie for a 3rd time, or if it's worth keeping in hopes that a firmware update might fix the issue.

And yes, I could theoretically watch the Blu Ray disk that's part of the package, but like you said, I don't see the point in watching a Blu Ray if the 4K release is available.

Yes, I am watching the Well Go release. As I wrote. We are using the same player to watch what should be identical discs. As I said, I am not of any help, because it works for me.

It might depend on where you pick one up. I got my first UB820 back in March 2021 from Visions for $380 and they have been extremely hard to get ever since but last Saturday I was able to get another UB820 from a different local electronics store and I said the only way I was taking it is if they matched my Visions price of $380 and they did although they only had one more in stock which they sold to someone else for $599 while I was still in the store.

Im thinking high clarity sound with video off might give some benefits to audio discs due to shutting off unneeded processing for video. But, is high clarity sound with video on going to improve the sound quality of BDs and UHD discs?

I don't think it matters if you're watching video content.

Thank you! My fingers are sore from googling.

It does beg the question why video on is even an option though.

I'd imagine it's for navigation of discs/content.

That does make sense. Video on whilst navigating then switch to video off when music is selected.

Thanks.

After 8 weeks of waiting, I just got back from the authorized Panasonic repair center here in Ontario Canada, my Panasonic 9000 to fix the intermittent drive retract failure. Lo and behold there’s now a noticeable audible mechanical noise on retraction. The player now also has a “please wait” message on the screen for a good 10 seconds before the menu pops up.

Wondering if I take my argument that their official repair shop botched the job they’d consider giving me a full unit replacement? I’m running out of time on my warranty, as it will be 1 year come March.

I’m not sure that the audible noise you are hearing from the tray is an actual error. My 9000 has always had a slight audio noise when the tray goes in and out.

I don’t ever get a “Please Wait” message, though. Did you double-check that the firmware is up-to-date? Perhaps they replaced the motherboard or did something else that reverted the software back to release status?

Thanks for giving me something to check. Firmware is indeed up to date. The noise I hear when the drive retracts is not something I was used to hearing prior to sending my unit in for repair. I have a video recording with audio of it though, posted here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/m2nkQEqKyYc (I will remove this video in a few days)

It's 2160p 25, not interlaced. I'm wondering whether this is the issue, have there been any other 4K discs that are 25p? All the BBC ones are 24p as to not have any issues with American TVs, as far as I'm aware. The Little Drummer Girl may be the first 25p 4K disc(?), so maybe it's 25p that the soundbar is having issues with passing through.

The thing is, if it is the Soundbar causing the problem due to passthrough, even if I move the HDMI cables around so that it's going directly to the TV, my TV is an LG CX, which doesn't support DTS. So I'm either getting the sound or picture compromised, depending on which way I do it.

What does this actually do to the image? I've noticed it a few times on Arrow discs, but didn't think anything of it. Surely if there's no HDR, it doesn't do anything?

I've had this problem A LOT and initially thought it was my 820 that was the problem, but I've since assumed it was my Samsung Q950T soundbar. Maybe not and it is the player after all? It's only ever Dolby Vision discs for me.

This, and sound drops, mainly. Will be for a second or two every minute or so.

Hmm...Mine doesn't sound like that. The sound of your tray coming out is similar to mine...but I don't get a gear-like sound when it goes back in.

I do often get a bit of a rumbling sound for a brief moment while it goes in...but it doesn't sound as "mechanical" as that. That is indeed odd.
