I have the same problem with my old Samsung player and it's because pushing play after pausing sets it into some sort of "step" mode, to resume with correct sync you have to push the pause button again. Could be something similar going on here, try using whichever of those two button you weren't using to resume previously.

Have you tried experimenting with different combinations of audio output settings (bitstream vs PCM) on both the player and your TV?

Then your 820 isn’t set up correctly.

Then something's gone wrong with the HDMI handshake because that really should work.

The film I watched last night certainly seemed to be playing at 24p. It wasn't jerky or anything.

When you put a standard BD in and press play is 24p underneath the text 'BD video' on your 820? In the small square in the top right hand corner?

All the status windows through my amp and player show 24p.

Just watched a YouTube video of a disc start up. The video was showing a 4k disc and where my older player shows 24p this video showed '4K'.

So,my guess is 24p isn't in text on the 820 in the top right square I mention.

Just 4k for 4k discs, and blank for BDs.

I seem to be completely f'ing wrong here. I guess it's the 4K I was thinking of. I think I read your initial post as the older Panasonic player you had also being a UHD player.

Anyone know of any reported issues playing the 4K disk of Ip Man 4 on the 820 player? I've bought the movie 3 times (twice from gruv.com through Amazon, and this last time through Bestbuy), and each time the disks starts glitching, freezing, having audio dropouts, etc. within a minute or two of the movie starting, sometimes as soon as the beginning credits start playing. Each disk looks perfectly fine, and I don't have any issues with other movies. My thought is that a bad batch of disks was sent out, and went to multiple retailers, or this is just one of those problem disks that the 820 has issues with.

Is your player firmware up to date? In the past the 820 has had playback issues with some Dolby Vision discs but as far as I know this has been fixed.

Is there any difference in sound quality if you have high clarity sound set to on?

I haven't spot it while turning it on and off, but on on you can turn off display.

Im just a bit concerned that having it on might affect other sound settings somewhere like my amps Audyssey. Or alter the discs intended sound.

But, that if the above isn't a factor then having it set to off might be robbing me if a slight increase in sound quality.

Don't know what to do.

As far as I know it is. Last update was a while ago, but the disk was released in April of 2020 and I know I've had updates since that time. Is there a way to force the player to look for any recent updates though, just in case?

I am going to be of no help here, because my Ip Man 4 played perfectly on my 820

Last update was in Sept 21 IIRC.

1.69 is current firmware.

Like Yogi said the 820 goes down to $400 quite regularly. Was able to snag mine for that nearly three years ago. Can't believe it's been that long already!

Time sure flies during a global pandemic.

September of this year? I either missed that one or else updated and then promptly forgot.

I turn it on. It gives you audio options (such as optical-only) that, at least theoretically, allow you to turn off processing that may adversely affect sound quality. I use it to turn off the front display.
