If it's the RattleByte mod you're looking at, it looks like the type B cable harness, which leaves only two connections that need soldering, is listed as compatible with the DP-UB820. That'd at least cut down on the amount of soldering required. Have you opened up your player to see if it's got the connectors for that?
I haven't opened the player yet but after watching some videos, I think I'm comfortable trying the soldering.

The harness part is what confused me with the 2 choices. I guess there are two models of the 820 and if you are lucky enough to have the right model, you can buy a harness that just plugs in?

I guess I'll have to take apart the player this weekend and take a look.

I hope it goes well! I only ever did some very basic soldering once years and years ago, so while having only one BD player would be tidier, I didn't want to go messing around in there and risk messing up the internals if I didn't have to.

Scorxpion is absolutely correct.

A good quality step down transformer will not blow up.

I have 3 220-110 step down transformers in my house, and not a single one has ever blown up. The biggest 2000W one is used to power an Onkyo AVR I imported from Amazon US, and it is used daily as we love watching movies. It is > 10 yo, and still working perfectly.

I purchased a US$1000.00 step down transformer. Equipment lasted a month.
I threw everything away and will never touch 110v electronics again.

The cheaper ones that sell for $50 on Amazon have an option to replace the fuse. Most likely the fuse will blow on it and the component will be fine. Always look for that option when buying one.

It’s “beware”

And you can’t project your unlucky or incompetent experience unto everyone else. I’ve had shit step-downs and ones that weren’t.

Used a cheapy Amazon step down converter when I had a US player and never had a day's trouble with it (I realised later that the player had a 110-240 power supply inside it anyway which rendered the converter moot, but still).

Maybe you have a bad experience using 110v equipment and i do understand the fear you have. may i know what kind of transformer you bought it with $1000, i guess the fault is there and i am hundred percent sure.
Electronics device in general can be use through a step down converter regardless of their frequency , at least you are not using a fridge ,washing machine or anything has a built in motor. From Child i learn something when we used to have 110v as electricity then later our government decides to step up to 220v. you can still use your equipment using a suitable transformer till the time come and you decide to change it to their equivalent input voltage.
Even HDTVTEST import the first QDOLED from sony to UK and test it using a transformer.
what's important whenever or anyone buy a transformer or any converter to test it before using a voltmeter. it happened with me before a converter if it's not well built can't output 110v. I am happy with my purchase of Both Players from US and if our economy condition is not bad right now maybe i will buy a new receiver for Atmos and DTS X.

Just experienced a freeze with another of my discs. This time it was the Synapse release of Suspiria. As far as I know the player shouldn't have any issues with this disc but unfortunately at around chapter 3 the screen gets all scrambled and freezes.

Something similar happened with my 4K copy of Rocketman about a third into the film which I ended up replacing the disc (which did in fact solve the issue)

Quite frustrating as this is quite a bit more expensive of a replacement over rocketman

Can confirm that release of Suspiria played without problem on my Europen 820.

Does anyone who has an LG OLED have handshake issues when you are playing a Dolby Vision disc when playing it through your Panasonic 820 or 9000 player? I constantly get a signal loss for a few seconds and then the signal comes back. The rest of the playback is flawless. This only goes away when turning off "Ultra HD Deep Color" but the TV makes you turn it back on when restarting playback again.

I am running HDMI 2.1 cables. They are certified. I also tested certified HDMI 2.0 cables and the same thing happens. Just curious if others have this issue?

I had that but since I upgraded my cables the issue stopped. I purchased the 150$ ones that are 8k capable. But if yours are certified as well that should not be the issue. My tv is also an LGC2.

Never had any issues with either the Panasonic 420 or 820.

Only device that I have had handshake issues with an LG OLED is the PS4 Pro. To this day, even after every PS4 and LG update, it still gives a black screen. Works perfectly with every other non-LG OLED TV in the house. Launch PS4 and PS5 work perfectly with the LG OLED.

Personally i’d go back to 2.0, 2.1 isn’t needed and can cause problems.

I’d disconnect everything, reconnect and see if that fixes things. If the issue persisted I’d do a factory reset on the player.

No offence intended but 8K and 2.1 aren’t needed for 4K UHD. 2.0 18gbps is more than sufficient. As for the cost $150 cables are little more than snake oil.

I have the UB820. Has anyone else had playback issues with the new Coraline 4K disc? I have had two scratch-free discs glitch out during the exact same scene (when Coraline returns home and finds the rotten groceries).

No problems here. I am running through my receiver as well though.
