Yeah it was already on 1.69 when I set it up.

I have a Panasonic 820 region modded today, and it's good, but I've been looking at a Reavon UBR-X100 for build quality.

Any votes for or against?

Hello again,

a few weeks ago I posted a message concerning two bugs I had found in the analog section of the DP-UB824. For those who are interested and may have missed it, here it is:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=11748

Since then I have experimented some more and yesterday I figured out where exactly the second bug is. The second bug:

Quote:
Originally Posted by Freddy2 View Post

This does not happen in the previous case, where 5.1 is expanded to 7.1; in that case all is fine regarding the delays. As this can not be fixed manually, native 7.1 tracks can only be used mixed down to 5.1 (by enabling Secondary Audio), which is ok of course, but still quite a big bug.
As the 45 ms I mentioned was a guess, I made a few test files (the ones that say BEEP-BEEP-BEEP), to measure the exact amount and it turned out to be 80 ms. But then I thought, that is the exact same setting I have for Audio Delay in the Sound Setup menu. What if...
And when I turned that setting down to 0 ms... what do you know... all the speakers are in sync! So as it turns out, it is the Audio Delay setting in the Sound Setup menu where the bug is. It delays all the analog signals EXCEPT the two for the back speakers: the more delay you set here, the more the back speakers are out of sync with all the others.

Hopefully this helps some of you who might have had this problem as well. And if more of you could test this and report to Panasonic, hopefully they will fix it in the next firmware...

You're not going to gain anything as far as video quality goes.

In fact, I believe the Reavons may have the same chroma bug that the Oppo did, making the video quality ever so slightly inferior, at least with progressive material, where the player's de-interlacing abilities aren't included in the equation.

Good call, then I'll just stay with my 820. :-)

Isn't there a work around for region-locked discs?

Get a used Oppo non-UHD player if you watch DVDs (for whatever reason) or have tons of 1080i Blu-rays.

I think I own one DVD and one 1080i BD. Both are ripped to MKV for easy playback.

Won't need a Oppo for that I think... ;-)

For a fellow Scandinavian to own almost 800 Blu-rays and have just one that’s 1080i, I tip my hat

Actually, many of my blu's come from when they are included with the UHD's which I prioritize, but thanks!

The 1080i BD is Dellamorte Dellamore by Shameless UK, and the DVD is an old swedish movie named Ha Ett Underbart Liv.

I decided to switch back to using HDR presets on my projector for all sources that have HDR instead of using the tone mapping on the 820. Of course for awhile I forgot to also change the luminance back down to "standard" from very bright. Couldn't figure out why all my whites were blown out. Don't forget this setting, if you do the same.

Problem I’m occasionally having now is where I place a movie in and it says it can’t read the disc. I’m having to take the disc out, wipe it and go again. That occurred with City of the Living Dead, Subspecies II and Dragonslayer.
LOL so yeah, shaking the machine actually got the disc to eject. I sort of couldn't believe it. Everything seems to be working fine now with no issues, wonder why that one disc jammed up my machine.

The remote trick. Get region error, press stop. Press top menu on the remote. You might have to do it a couple of times.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work with every disc. I was stupid and went Region-B mad recently only to find some don't work.

From my experience, it's mostly 88 Films and some Studio Canal have been picky. It's say it's 60/40 or 70/30. It's pretty reliable but don't go overboard like I did.

I definitely want to region mod mine now but it's just a matter of getting the soldering tools and trying to do it. Not something I'm really lookin forward to.

More info please. What projector are you using and why did you make this decision? Reason I ask I’m thinking on the 820 just for tone mapping on my projector.

Epson 5040. It was because at one point I stopped using HDR on my Shield because of certain reasons, but then I went back to doing it - so now I have an HDR preset (I used a Harmony Elite) and it looks better with my preset than using the regular 4K settings plus tone mapping. And I don't want three different presets, so I just stuck with my HDR preset for my 820.

Thanks, everyone raves how great the Panny tone mapping is on a projector, what didn’t you like?

Projectors and HDR don’t go together. If you can’t afford a Lumagen Radiance Pro or a MadVR, just don’t bother. Stick with regular Blu-ray.

it wasn't anything I didn't like. It was that I didn't want to have three presets, and I would need an extra preset for the bluray player in tone mapping mode, since it was in a different color space than what my shield TV was in, I think - but also it was slightly differently calibrated. It's purely my very specific situation. Someday when I get a new projector I might change back, depending on how the projector handles HDR and/or if it auto switches presets.
