#1 doesn’t seem like a big deal until you realize that means checking every 4k movie to see whether it supports DV or not prior to playing it and, of course, manually changing the settings back and forth.

Oh I tried every setting, god knows what the issue was/is. Hardware related I'd guess since software would be the same for everyone right? But who knows. I haven't actually used the X800 in forever as a result, wonder if they ever firmware'd it.

Just go with the Panasonic and save yourself the headache.

Well, the replacement remotes are not of very good quality.

Any suggestions on the cheapest place to buy a genuine US remote (N2QAYA000175) that also ships internationally?

EDIT: Found a place. Crazy expensive, but still much cheaper than buying the player with correct remote from the US. Oh well.

It's possible to get a replacement remote that is neither a cheap copy nor a super expensive UB9000 replacement. It'll be missing that HDR setting button, but that's it.

Panasonic abandoned their player remote app at least 5-6 years ago now.

The only issue I'm having w/ the Panasonic remote so far is I keep pressing the dang Netflix button by accident when using the arrow buttons to navigate.

Found this used one. Dunno if the site is legit, however.

Yep, I DETEST that button with the passion of 1000 suns.

My Netflix comes through my TV, it has nothing to do with my UHD player.

I press that button by mistake all the time, and lose my place in a movie and have to shut the machine off and restart it.

Netflix must have paid Panasonic a ton of money to include that button on the remote.

Otherwise, I love the player.

I got a replacement disc from Amazon but it also does the same thing so I tried it on my other players and it plays fine on all other players Sony, Samsung ect just not the Panasonics. Strange
My UB820 had issues with the Critical Condition Shout BD too, it got stuck loading with a blank screen. I pressed stop then top menu and it played fine after that. It didn't lock my machine, but mine has user prohibitions removed via the region mod so can fast forward through stuff you normally can't, so wondering if that helps in my case.

That's the button I really want... ;-) I already have this remote without the HDR, and it's great, except for the HDR button.

No problem for me.

Even with the remote, a region modded 9000 would be much more expensive for me to import;

Panasonic 9000:
220-Electronics - 1389 USD
Bombay Electronics - 1349 USD

TPS - 702 GBP (876 USD)
Panasonic 9000 Genuine US Remote - 169 USD

Totals to 1045 USD for me, with the US remote, so it's all good.

I’ll have to check again but mine we locked up and I had to unplug them in order for them to work again.

I have both an 820 and a 9000. I have not had those problems on my 820. Both players are terrific.

Strange! This never happened to me since I've owned the 9000, and I have rather big fingers...
My one nitpick with the remote would be the easily scratched plastic surface! I wish Panasonic had given it an aluminum casing, just like they did for the TV remotes, which really would have provided an uptick in overall haptics quality. But other than that, I think it's a magnificent device!

I have this weird issue where in Dolby Vision it displays dark grey instead of black bars on my 820. I don't have this issue with the Apple TV app or Amazon Prime video, just the player.

My tv is a an LG B7

https://www.avforums.com/threads/let...eedom.2441584/

A member over on the AV forums has reverse engineered the regionfreedom mod (as that guy disappeared into thin air) and is planning on releasing it for free. He has it working on an 820, and is trying to figure out what other models he can get it working with, and someone has volunteered to be the guinea pig for testing a mod on a 9000. Sounds like the regionfreedom method of requiring the MAC address was a way to restrict the mod to your unit rather than anything essential to its functioning so that can be worked around to make it a mod anyone can install.
Still questions about whether it can be applied to new updates as they're released but it sounds like everyone can get up to the newest* current firmware, which is great for me as I'm stuck a few revisions back.

*apparently there is a new 1.70 firmware that's coming on newly purchased units but isn't available to download so he's speculating there's a new chip in production models

At last. Glad someone's finally cracked it, not sure I'd install it on my 820 as my OPPO is region free, but bravo to the fella involved.
