Anyone updated who has a 220-electronics modded player yet? Any issues?

I updated earlier today and began watching season 2 of Chucky. The player started pixelating and freezing up at around 38 minutes into episode 2. Took the disc out, wiped it down and again same thing at around the same point. I then played the disc in my old Sony x800 and the scene played flawlessly all the way to the end.
This player just seems to have random issues with random discs. AND I’ve encounter 4 instances where the player either had a disc inside and refused to eject it or refused to open up in the first place.
Player is just over a year old.

What firmware 1.76 did NOT do is add the ability to turn off the automatic shutoff after 20 minutes on pause. Screw you, Panasonic!

Thank goodness I'm moving away from physical media. If I'm lucky, streaming will help put Panasonic out of business.

Panasonic is arguably the best company in the world of physical media hardware right now. Hoping for streaming to put them out of business is moronic,

Are you sure it’s not a bad set of batteries? You could also try pulling the batteries out and letting the remote sit without them for a moment or two. Then put them back in and see if that clears it up.

I did try replacing the batteries but that didn’t work.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I would like to know what happens to the player if you don’t upgrade the firmware? Will my player still play or will I encounter problems in the future?

A bit of both. As Panasonic don't reveal what they're updating we'll never know if a title that predates the update is affected or if we'll run into issues with newer equipment.

If I recall someone like OPPO were far more proactive with updates, they'd include titles in their update info and issues they'd addressed.

It will still work, but certain titles that the updated software helps play those titles flawlessly will still have what ever flaws they have without the newer software.

Has anyone have a list of movies that's now playable (or has less or no problems) because of the new software?

I wonder if it fixes the legendarily annoying Panasonic bug where all extras on DV discs are stuck in fake Dolby Vision with super boosted brightness levels.

Another bug worth testing is on Halloween II (and maybe III too) where there’s some light flicker in Dolby Vision. I think the same happens with Ghost in the Shell.

I have one from them and never had any issues.

Updates require waiting for them to become available to them (last time was like 5 or so days) and then calling to ask for the file to be emailed. If you manually update online will break the region free capabilities of the modded player requiring technical support.

Just updated my UB820 to the latest firmware after I was prompted at power on. Updated over Ethernet.

My 820 is modchipped. Happy to report everything still works 100%. It did take a while to complete though but I just let it run the course and it did everything itself.

I remember in the previous firmware release, 1.6x, it fixed a problem I had with the Turbine Blu Ray discs of Amazing Stories. It would play audio but no picture. That fix is still there and the discs play fine.

Edit: Just also checked that region switching and branching is working too on discs that use it. I tested Savage Three in the Years Of Lead box set and it plays both the censored and uncensored versions complete with BBFC notice. Confirming that remote region switching works.

I believe the previous v1.69 firmware had fixed the DV flickering for Knives Out, Midway & Ghost in the Shell 1995 along with a few other DV titles but unfortunately the latest v1.76 has not fixed the DV flickering for Kino Lorber's Hard Target release

I’m about to throw this GD thing against the fu——- wall!

It’s great when it plays. But I can’t tell you how many times this thing gets hung up, just turning on. It just freezes with “Welcome!” on the front panel and I have to constantly press the power button for 5 seconds or do complete reset. Both of them I’ve owned have done this. It’s so damn irritating.

Which model do you have. Neither my old 820 or the 9000 I'm using now have had any issues like that.
