The only time I've been worried about a disc ruining a drive is ripping problem discs that make the drive mech go crazy, like really damaged discs or bad sectors, some things take like an hour to finish ripping. Too much of that might abuse the drive and wear something out. Don't see how that can happen on just a player it will probably go into a freeze fast enough on a bad disc.

[QUOTE=Travis;21718501]Hooked up second Sony X700 today. First one lasted 4-1/2 years. Got UB820…lasted 1-1/2 years. Annoying.
Search of pixelation Panasonic 820 showed some simile at results. Thought it was the Dune disc. Read about it being problematic. Then we were watching The Green Planet 4K disc and artifacts appeared again. Put in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 4K and before Sony Pictures Classics screen started white dots appeared on the black screen and then, after I skipped to the end, they’d appear when chapter changed, only took pic of Dune. Issues only with some 4K discs. Shrek played fine. I would like to ask you a question once this happened did you repeat the same spot if it's happening again. Have you tried to clean the lens of your drive by disassemble. there is a work around how to do it https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=13107 Last edited by Scorxpion; 12-15-2023 at 10:47 AM. ![]() Tried to work on a Marantz UD5005 after having it serviced a few times and not getting fixed.…by the time I was done messing with it, it was trash. Happened in same spots on Dune and Croucjing Tiger. Hooked 820 up to Marantz SR6004 (which only passes 1080p to projector). The UHD disc for Dune played fine. If player is converting 4K to 1080p is it just reading a single layer? |

So, in looking to make my decision on a 4k player, I see the panny here has speaker inputs on the back?
I've just been using an old home theatre in a box set up (which has been fine) but nice to know this one gives me two extra speakers, can process the sound etc. and saves me on purchasing a receiver for now. Anyway, my speakers are just loose wire plugged into the old player with those push down spring things. This panny seems to be plugs. Will these work to conver the wires into what would fit into the panny inputs? https://www.amazon.ca/Banana-FosPowe...bf36c603a&th=1 (if the link doesn't work, it's amazon for FosPower Banana Plugs) If not, any suggestions? Is this doable or do I need entirely new speakers? |

You couldn't plug speakers into the 7.1 ports? (i.e.: my old 3d player has 5.1 set up in the back but you push down on a button and just stuck the wire inside and it plays the sound from whatever device I have in the HDMI ports) You mean there'd be wires going from them into a receiver and the speakers would be plugged into the receiver? EDITED TO ADD: Just read up on it. Dang, well that doesn't solve my attempt to save money. I thought this player could be both. I'm back to popping the bluray with 5.1 (actual speakers do go into it . . . was once part of a home theater in a box) set up to ARC and plugging another player into the TV (which seems to set things slightly out of sync). Later I got it to play correctly in a LG UBKM9 and Panasonic UB820. For some reason it only likes to play well in a Dolby Vision player for me. I have had the pixelation problem in my Panasonic UB820 on other discs but the same problem was repeatable in other players as well. I wish I could be one of the many users on this forum that always chime in that they watch hundreds of 4K discs a year and never have a problem. Wiping/cleaning discs has never worked for me either. I think this is just a sensitive format both on the discs and player side. |

A home theater in a box system should still have an amp, unless you are running powered speakers than the amp is in one of the stereo speakers probably. I never got the point of the multi-channel outs on these players, back in the day it was if your amp couldn't decode the formats, and I used to use the multi-channel outs on my first HD DVD player because it decoded TrueHD and my amp didn't. But my amp did have the 5.1 inputs so I was able to take advantage of it. Any new entry 5.1 amp is going to to everything except Atmos/DTS:X. My current amp doesn't even have multi-channel inputs anymore.
