I'm not sure they fell out of fashion; my memory is that most were front loaders from the beginning of disc players- not counting portables, which are another animal entirely. |

I miss top loaders too. Had the Technics 5-disc carousel that I ended up giving to my girlfriend at the time (she’s not my wife of 25+ years). But what I really want to have is a single-disc top loader. Something like Rega Apollo but classier. I used to have a used top-loading laser disc player from Pioneer (the one that uses Helium Neon laser).
What I really want to have is the vertical load CD player. Hitachi, Toshiba, rven the cheapo Sound Design. I think Philips made those too |

![]() ![]() CD players are wonderfully funky. It's kind of sad to think that we've moved away from centrepiece AV equipment. I get that there's a touch of, "Look at my magnificent spinning machine!" but that's okay from time to time. |

Yes a key complaint I have with new electronic components is they are boring. Back in the heyday of vinyl many TTs had cool fully automatic features and higher end quartz locked speed controls. Now 99% of tables are fully manual. I have a newer AT-120XUSB but I still use my old 1984 Sony PS-LX510 fully automatic linear tracking quartz locked regularly. It’s nothing spectacular but it’s an interesting piece of equipment to view in operation. Same thing with cassette decks and the big CD carousels. I wish Sony was still making those big units with 4K/Blu-ray ability. The economic crisis in 2008 caused many manufacturers to abandon these electo-mechanical mechanisms in electronics.

I used to own one of those Sony 100 CD Carousels…good times.
See they even released a 400 disc player with Blu-ray support ![]() |

You have an electricity problem at home and you lose energy. That's why you device launching into 1 phase standby and after this is ready to power on. In 99% of cases, after a power outage, the device automatically switches to phase 1 standby mode.

No electrical problems. If this was the case I would also have issues with other appliances/electronics and/or my lights would flicker. And I don't live in an area prone to outages.

That’s not the point. The point is to clear your player’s cache from errors. The exact issue is actually your home electrical. The fact that you don’t see the issue as lights flickering doesn’t mean you don’t have issue with the house electrical.

@Cinema84
Disable "Quick start" if is not disabled and do it factory reset using remote. This is all what you can to do. This is a normal raw boot process if the device has lost power, but this is not normal when the device is connected to the power wall all time. 1. Turn the unit OFF (ub820 i ub9000) 2. Press and hold [OK], the [Yellow] button and the [Blue] button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds. “00 RET” is displayed on the unit’s display. 3. Press [►] right repeatedly on the remote control until “08 FIN” is displayed on the unit’s display. 4. Press and hold [OK] for more than 5 seconds Last edited by bl4ck; 03-05-2024 at 07:53 PM. |
