Sorry to pop in with a random question-new to the forum and can’t start my own thread.
Does the external subtitle feature on the UB820 support non-Latin characters? I’ve been trying to get a Korean subtitle file working to no avail. It’s encoded in UTF-8 and I’m on the latest firmware. |

Panny does do that forced DV thing on everything else on the disc tho, so while it usually decodes the main feature properly it means that everything else on a DV disc is forced into DV which includes SDR and HDR10. Annoying. And some HDR10 discs have rogue DV coding on them somewhere which the Panny forces into DV. Still, I'd rather that than having to keep turning Dobly on and off all the time as per Sony. |

Yep I have to turn off DV to watch Arrow extras or they are all in forced DV despite being SDR, so it's still not much different than what Sony does

OPPO is the bestest overall, as it auto detects DV (can even choose between player and TV led, tho that control is actually broken lol) and doesn't force it where it shouldn't, but it's a pain in the ass to turn DV off then on again if I want to check an HDR10 base layer. Panny auto detects DV and doesn't force it on discs that don't have it (mostly, aside from those with rogue coding as said), but the forcing of everything else on a DV disc *into* DV is super annoying. Still, it's easily turn-off-and-on-able, as is 10+. Sony is just gimpy as hell, you either have DV on for EVERYTHING all the time or you turn it off completely. |

I have another question for our technology experts:
I have both the Panasonic DP-UB704 and the Panasonic DP-UB824 players in my living room. Of course, when I switch on one player, the other one also switches on. You can change this in the respective menu settings. However, when I switch off the 824, for example, the 704 switches on briefly (the display then shows "Set Code 2") and then switches off again. Conversely, when I want to watch films on the 704, "Set Code 1" appears on the 824. Does this brief flashing have any effect on the service life and function of the respective players? |

No. It's just telling you that the remote codes are different. It's drawing no more or less power than just leaving it in quick start mode, which I presume is the situation.

To get rid of the soap opera effect from my UB820, do I have to adjust the settings on my TV? I didn't see a "cinemotion" type of setting on my player. The effect is prevalent on Blu-rays. Everything looks slightly sped-up. Maybe it's a different setting entirely? I have an LG C1 OLED, BTW.

I wound up having to do quite a bit more work. Once I got the disc out, the tray wouldn’t move at all. Finally, I followed the advice of a Reddit thread and disassembled the player to then open up the tray housing. You have to have the disc tray slid all the way out so you’re able to turn the little cogs with a belt on it. By doing this apparently it moves the wheel away from potential dead spots which caused the problem. You then have to reassemble everything and power on and it works perfectly fine. It’s absolutely bizarre. And seemingly if it hits another one of these dead spots at some point, I will have to repeat the process.

I miss top loaders, wish there was a way to mod these players to not even use the door.

However,... the way the drive works I decided to forget about modding it. I already have other players so my UB9000 will most likely just sit on the shelf until I take it to recycling. |

Makes me think they could sell more parts or something, motors/belts/trays always break. I'm picturing a slim UHD unit top loader about the size of an apple tv would be so simple. There's some really cool old school Technics CD changer models that look like a turn table.
