I would love to get a Lumagen, but here in Germany it's an elusive Golden Egg. They start at 7,900 Euro for the 4240, and goes up from there. If you can even find one.

Wondering if I should keep going to see if it hiccups on other disc before returning or exchanging it?

Same here. I’m still contemplating in buying. I’ll only be using it for the NLS feature.

That should be the last reason to buy a Lumagen. Why in the world would you want to distort the OAR of the image? Please don't tell me because you want to "fill your screen".

Nope. I just want it so in-between movies when I need to access the player’s / appleTV menu, I don’t need to shift the lens memory to 16:9. Stupid “problem” I know.

I will be looking for another 4k player when I move my oled to the bedroom, do the Panasonic players force dolby vision on hdr discs when the setting is enabled like the Oppo or does it only enable it on dv capable discs?... I haven't owned anything except my Oppo and since they aren't around anymore it's probably going to be either Panasonic or Sony but I want a player that forces dv as I've found more often than not it looks better

Sony is the only one you can force DV. To me it looks super ugly.

That’s very disappointing to hear. I had been contemplating getting a replacement player since nearly every Disney disc now pixelates and freezes, despite numerous exchanges all pixelating in the same spot. The Titanic disc did the same thing and after numerous exhanges, it always pixelates, freezes, and stops playback in the same spot. I tried opening ticket with Panasonic, should it be software-related, but didn’t really get anywhere.

Do you have timestamps on Titanic? I'd loved to see if I'd run into same issues.

If the problem is repeatable at the same spot then it’s not a player’s problem. It’s a disc problem.

If it's a disc problem then why, for me as example, am I able to play my disc on a Sony 800 and an LG90 player without fault.

I will try to grab later this evening after this evening. I know the pixelating and audio cut outs start when Jack and Rose are locked behind the gate and trying to grab the keys underwater. It moves directly to a chapter stop that immediately halts playback.

All of the same discs play without issue in a PS5, though sans Dolby Vision.

It is simply a disc problem that can’t be skipped by Panasonic. The problem remains with the disc.

I’ve run into a similar situation. Replacing the disc did fix it. The bad disc played in a Sony player.

To me it seems that Sony has more robust error correction outside of the layer change issue.

Not that I have ever experienced. However, when playing a movie with DV, the extras that are SDR will play back in DV; makes the SDR material look really bad.

Panny doesn't force it on other HDR. It'll automatically play whatever the disc has for HDR. That's one of the reasons I dropped my x700 for an 820. I don't have to manually switch everytime I pop in a disc.

Only thing it does do that is only mildly annoying is that when a 4K has both DV and HDR10+, it'll choose HDR10+ over DV when both settings in the player are on. You'd figure that it knows that DV is the superior HDR, but I guess not. So you do have to turn HDR10+ off at times, but not often.

This is pretty much the same during DVD player days. Usually the crappier the DVD player is (those China cheapo with unknown brand) the more I can play scratched disc, pirated disc, etc compared to a more premium such as Sony, Panasonic and Pioneer of that vintage.

sounds like I might have to look into a Sony so I can choose whether or not to force dolby vision... even if that isn't something a given individual normally does it's nice to have the option instead of the player forcing what's on the disc

In my case it played in the Sony but froze in the Panasonic.

The build quality on the Sony is certainly a step above the Panasonic… I dunno I’ll start to ramble but the 4K player options we have now are not ideal. It is what it is.

It has nothing to do with build quality. It has everything to do with how a player software is designed to ignore the erroneous/out of spec disc. Although I don’t understand why a player can’t be both.
