That should be the last reason to buy a Lumagen. Why in the world would you want to distort the OAR of the image? Please don't tell me because you want to "fill your screen".

Nope. I just want it so in-between movies when I need to access the player’s / appleTV menu, I don’t need to shift the lens memory to 16:9. Stupid “problem” I know.

I will be looking for another 4k player when I move my oled to the bedroom, do the Panasonic players force dolby vision on hdr discs when the setting is enabled like the Oppo or does it only enable it on dv capable discs?... I haven't owned anything except my Oppo and since they aren't around anymore it's probably going to be either Panasonic or Sony but I want a player that forces dv as I've found more often than not it looks better

That’s very disappointing to hear. I had been contemplating getting a replacement player since nearly every Disney disc now pixelates and freezes, despite numerous exchanges all pixelating in the same spot. The Titanic disc did the same thing and after numerous exhanges, it always pixelates, freezes, and stops playback in the same spot. I tried opening ticket with Panasonic, should it be software-related, but didn’t really get anywhere.

All of the same discs play without issue in a PS5, though sans Dolby Vision. |

Only thing it does do that is only mildly annoying is that when a 4K has both DV and HDR10+, it'll choose HDR10+ over DV when both settings in the player are on. You'd figure that it knows that DV is the superior HDR, but I guess not. So you do have to turn HDR10+ off at times, but not often. Last edited by jess1581; 02-28-2024 at 07:05 PM. |

This is pretty much the same during DVD player days. Usually the crappier the DVD player is (those China cheapo with unknown brand) the more I can play scratched disc, pirated disc, etc compared to a more premium such as Sony, Panasonic and Pioneer of that vintage.

The build quality on the Sony is certainly a step above the Panasonic… I dunno I’ll start to ramble but the 4K player options we have now are not ideal. It is what it is. |

It has nothing to do with build quality. It has everything to do with how a player software is designed to ignore the erroneous/out of spec disc. Although I don’t understand why a player can’t be both.
