This is the same thing I have been doing. It isn't ideal but I already owned the earlier discs anyway and then I get a 'complete' edition with best PQ and good extras.

If you enjoy the Spider-Man films you should get those ones too, as they are certainly a big improvement.

I want all three Spider-Man films as well, but I'm still waiting on price drops.

edit: According to McCrutchy, the Mi4K version is now split over 2 discs, and he said he's more pleased than he thought he'd be. The bitrate appears to be double that of the US disc

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...02&postcount=6
The Mi4K one is 34.9 mbps, while the old one is 22.3 mbps. That's not quite double.

Anyway, it's hard for me to believe how anyone would want to upgrade LoA. The picture quality is as reference as it gets. The same goes for Taxi Driver.

The bit-rates... like you just mentioned for Taxi Driver. I didn't even realize that one was that big of a difference. It's going on my wish-list for sure.

I had to struggle and get real close to the screen to see a difference on this one: http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...310&lossless=1

So to sum up, which are the MI4K discs worth picking up? From what I've read, it seems that Ghostbusters and Spider-Man are the ones that have a very noticeable improvement. The others are marginal at best. True?

Moneyball was a nice improvement too compared to the original disc - notably more film-like looking and less edge enhancement. Looked very good projected.

I think I got it for like $8 shipped from a Fry's online sale - keep an eye on them. I would like to grab MiB, Ghostbusters, and Spider-Man 1 & 2 at some point around that price.

I was hoping we would have seen more Mi4K titles by this point.

Ghostbusters, Glory, Men in Black, Spider-Man, and Spider-Man 2. With the rest the difference is negligible at best.

Thanks Goofnut! I don't have Glory or Men In Black in any format so I might bite on those. I would probably get Ghostbusters at some point but boy I've spent a few bucks on that movie already over the years. If I can hit a great sale on those Spider-Man titles I might pick those up. Ah, the double dip..."don't sell em' the movie once. Sell em' 3 editions over 10 years!"

Fair enough sir. It just sounded to me like you were saying that anything mastered in 4K was automatically a Mastered in 4K™ release, but that's not the case, not as far as the technical specs of that range is concerned.

As good as Lawrence looks on Blu, I'd love to get a peek at the Mi4K version, just for the hell of it.

Yep, grain structure and text on paper a tiny bit more defined. I have never seen this movie, but have considering blind buying it.

You need to get on it. It's one of Scorcese's best.

I prefer special features over a marginal improve in PQ, so if you're like me go for the orignal BD release which looks stunning and also comes from a 4K source.

I guess upgrading these titles is just what hard-core videophiles do.

Being a pq-buff myself I'm happy to own the MI4K-editions of LoA and Taxi Driver.

I upgraded LoA from superbit-dvd (don't own the regular blu-ray) and I never owned Taxi Driver on any previous format. (making this a MI4K-motivated blind buy)

I did upgrade the Spider Man films (1 & 2) from the old blu-ray's. So I can only really compare these MI4K movies with the older editions. (I can really recommend upgrading to the MI4K Spidey discs.)

To me, striving for the best picture/audio quality, strikes me as the core of the hobby. There are odder reasons fans collect blu-ray's for (- an exclusive slipcover, a cool steelbook, etc -) all well documented on these forums...

I've double dipped many times in order to get better quality. But those were with picture qualities that were 3, maybe even 4 out of 5. The point of upgrading something that is already 5 out of 5 is beyond me.

It's hard for me to believe that there are people out there who can watch the first releases of Taxi Driver and LoA and say "You know, this just doesn't look quite good enough". It blows my mind.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that anyone said that Taxi Driver or Lawrence "just doesn't look quite good enough". The point is, if Sony can squeeze another 1 or 2 percent out of something that's already great then some people are inclined to have a look see, such is the curse of the videophile.
