Yeah, there are some slightly better transfers out there in Asia, but the price is not worth it. I think some are missing English subs as well.

As an addendum to my earlier post about future 2K->4K rebuilds having upscaled effects shots, it's still going on with theatrical releases, never mind redos of existing titles.
I know that Sony did it with Spider-Man 3 but I didn't hear much about it since then, and I've just learned that After Earth's effects were upscaled too. I may be displaying my naďveté here, but it's gotta be a fair bet that most of Sony's much-vaunted 4K output has upsampled effects. If/when 4K VFX becomes an affordable reality for theatrical releases it'd still cost too much for a rebuild of a mere catalogue title, and given that the upscaling is unquestionably good it may become the default treatment for 4K revisitations of 2K VFX. |

My memory is that Men in Black looked underwhelming on Blu-Ray. Crush and color / contrast issues -- suits looking more blue than black, shadows on skin looking blotchy.

You can clearly see edge ringing around Will Smith in this shot. I'm guessing the Blu-Ray was sourced from the same master as the DVD. We might actually be in for a surprise with the M4K transfer seeing as the current Blu was probably sourced from a 2K scan. Last edited by The Fallen Deity; 07-06-2013 at 03:56 AM. |

Not really "strange" that two old transfers would both have edge enhancement. Seems like it was pretty standard procedure back in the day.
If the new 4K transfer is made from the original negative it will blow the current blu-ray out of the water. I agree that Leon and Life of Brian should be on the shortlist for future remasters. |
