I do laugh at you Americans complaining about this price. Set will cost easily around $15k here NZ. Or around $10k USD

Thanks for your post. I don't want you to think that I am thankful that good TVs and I'm sure plenty of other items are far more expensive than in the states. We are lucky here to have so may a/v choices and fair prices on electronics.

I'm in Dallas at CEDIA and this morning I attended LG's press conference and presented our "king of TV" trophy for winning our 2015 TV Shootout.

I came to CEDIA by myself so I could not take any pictures, but some of the press took photos and I'll try to get one posted tomorrow.

Sorry if this has already been discussed/answered: Will both the EG9600 (curved) and EF9500 (flat) support HDR over HDMI? I've read conflicting reports, but the general consensus is that only the EF9500 will receive an update enabling HDR over HDMI.

Correct, only the EF9500 is HDMI 2.0A and HDCP up-gradable to handle the upcoming Ultra HD Blu-ray with HDR content. Both accept 4K HDR over IP and of course both will display the upcoming Ulta HD BD, but only the EF9500 will accept HDR BD.

Kaleidescape uses an LG OLED display at CEDIA for their award winning Ultra HD HDR player. The audio on the download includes lossless audio codecs such as DTS HD MA, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-X and Dolby ATMOS. The Kaleidescape product was Best of Show. This is the future of home entertainment. The Sony catalog of UHD movies will be available through the Kaleidescape movie store.

Very nice. I wonder how may GBs your average 4K movie with lossless audio will consume.

The people buying the Kaleidescape Strato for $4,000+ probably don't care about data caps.

Yikes. Haven't researched that product, but I hope they offer a media ownership (read: unlimited viewings) option for that price. Of course, if the company dissolves into the ether at some point in the future, that would probably be the end of your presumably sizable investment.

I love my new EF9500 65" but the Vignetting is sooooo annoying on it. It is very evident in dark scenes of movies and TV!

Mine is probably on the minor side actually, but still for a $5k TV I really wouldn't expect for it to be as noticeable as it is on my set. I have tried a multitude of things from picture settings to running slides and it is still pretty bad. Although, I will say that my first EF9500 had the yellow line on the right side and it is a MUCH worse concern than this yellow line.

Just to clarify, are you saying the vignetting is the more pressing concern? I imagine that will depend on just content (hockey, W/B movies) in the case of the yellow staining versus both viewing environment (blackout viewing) AND content (low APL) with vignetting. The discoloration, if severe enough, would seem to be the more pressing concern. Hopefully, the positive reports continue to trickle in concerning the October build and white uniformity. Haven't heard any remarks about the vignetting yet in the Oct. build.

What is the build on your latest set? September? How many hours? You will see minimal improvement over time but not complete resolution courtesy of the compensation cycle that runs every 10 hours upon shut down.

They've already achieved improvement from the curved model (the EG9600) where you could detect vignetting all the way up to 10% grayscale. The latest model looks pretty decent down to 5% (but has shown to fall apart below). I think this will just be a gradual thing. Managing current delivery to all 8+ million pixels has proven quite tricky, and content graded with an elevated black floor will make the defect more visible.

I have the first gen LG OLED (2013) with its own unevenness near black, so you can rest assured this is just the latest manifestation of the problem and may never be completely resolved until they achieve a breakthrough with IGZO backplanes.

According to Withers, dark edges are still an issue on the flat LG OLED, but not on the Panasonic OLED, which is still considered reference. However:

"As luck would have it we were able to review the LG 65EF950V immediately after reviewing the Panasonic TX-65CZ952B and as a result we could appreciate the remarkable picture qualities of the latter. In our opinion, the CZ952B remains the reference point in terms of absolute image quality. It wasn't just the fact that Panasonic had eliminated the cause of the dark edges but also that the CZ952 proved that little bit better in many other areas such as colour accuracy, motion handling, black gradations and 3D. However the EF950 did edge out the Panasonic in other areas, especially in terms of brightness, energy efficiency, sound quality, smart features and input lag. Ultimately the CZ952 costs £7,999 and, as good as it is, we'd find it hard to justify the extra cost for improvements that many people might not even notice and we'd prefer to have a flat screen. So whilst the Panasonic TX-65CZ952B remains our reference point for image quality, if we were buying a TV right now we'd almost certainly go for the LG 65EF950V"

Panels are from LG Display but better quality control dictated by Panasonic 'custom selection. Panasonic video processing eliminates the dark edges.

A Blu-ray from the Kaleidescape store averages about 40GB. A 4K UHD title wil average about 60GB.

The Kaleidescape Strato 4K player with internal hard drive can hold approximately 100 UHD movies. Their top end Terra Server will hold 400 of them.

The Terra Server starts shipping next month, but the Strato player won't ship until Q1 of 2016. (I have a couple on order already.)
