The Young Lions is also coming out on Blu-ray in June from Twilight Time.

Staying in the Collection is the dvd of De Sica's Indiscretion of an American Wife/Terminal Station. The first is the Selznick title and cut (which is barely feature length) and the second is De Sica's original film. I've only seen the cut version and need to get this at some point.

Going back to the recent announcements-while it's great to get two new Costa-Gavras titles, I wish they had upgraded Missing.

It's fascinating to watch de Havilland's character's metamorphosis in The Heiress. What she starts as and ends as is just amazing.

Lonelyhearts also has terrific acting by Maureen Stapleton.

This has to be one of my all-time favorite movies. I really hope Universal releases it soon or licenses it to someone who can do justice it (Criterion).

No, hence the flash.

We can assume that it'll be the last Tuesday of the month, which is this coming Tuesday, but there's no way to know for certain.

I love all the posts about "The Heiress". One of William Wyler's best. Olivia de Havilland gave an excellent performance in this and her Oscar win for his is much deserved. Hats off to Clift as well, he holds his own in this film. Another great Wyler film is "Carrie" starring Jennifer Jones and Olivier. Wyler directed some great films with Bette Davis as well. "The Little Foxes" and "Jezebel". I love Wyler.

I love Wyler, too. This guy did it all, from musicals to drama, from epics to film noir, from romance to westerns. He often gets overlooked because he was a craftsman who put the story ahead of his own style, but he made a lot of great movies, from Dodsworth to Funny Girl. When I look at the list of films he directed, at least since the early sound era, there's hardly a dud in the bunch.

The BBC (I think) did a series of adaptations and modernised them, I loved the Macbeth one with James Mcavoy as the chef. I'll see if I can dig some stuff out to put here, they were quite good though!

Thanks for the replies WonderWeasel! I hope you will enjoy your Shakespeare marathon. You have convinced me to move up Olivier's Richard the III on my watchlist. Hopefully, it will be on Hulu Plus for a few more days at least. Also, I guess I am in the minority in feeling that Titus is worth a rental. I am a fan of Anthony Hopkins and recall his performance and the film experience as a whole to be "far out" in a good way. It isn't for the squeamish or faint of heart though.

Have any members here seen all of the films included in the Essential Jacques Demy set yet? I watched The Young Girls of Rochefort last night and would rank it below Lola and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and tie it with Bay of Angels. The music in TYGOR was good and it was as beautiful as Umbrellas, but I didn't like the characters as much. This is the first film with Catherine Deneuve in it that I haven't liked. The girls that she and her sister protrayed came off as snobs to me. Maybe I should give it another try soon. So, are Donkey Skin and Une Chambre en Ville worth a watch based on my opinions of the other 4 films in the set?

Lastly, am I the only one that wants Criterion to release The Iron Giant(maybe they can get this one from Warner Bros.)as their third animated blu release next February? I figure that since Fantastic Mr. Fox and Watership Down are February releases that we can expect another one announced in November. It would be nice if Criterion could release more than one animated film per year.

The more I think about it the more I hope the eyeball calendar clue turns out to be Jellyfish Eyes. I can't see really going out of my way to seek it out but if the folks in NYC want to put it on a platter for me (complete with sides that add a nice helping of context) I would absolutely not say no.

Reading the description on Limelight on Criterion makes me REALLY want to see it. Is it worth a blind buy? Is it typical Chaplin comedy?

I saw American Pop when it first hit the theaters (1981), and thought it was great! It came out maybe toward the tail end of a period of time that seemed to cater to "artsy" kinds of animated feature films. (Watership Down came out only 3 years before it). Ralph Bakshi was a very hot/popular name at the time (still is, I suppose). I could see American Pop fitting in with Criterion. Whether it happens or not, who knows. It would be nice to see it come out on bluray at all.
