I really enjoyed Ferrara's, but I have to go with Herzog's because of this:

That was a pretty decent little film. Nicolas Cage's comparably impressive acting, Fairuza Balk in a police uniform, and even some iguana POV camera shots. Everything necessary for a movie.
The only way I can think to describe Cage's performance is if Jim Carrey became a crackhead instead of a comedian. It's perfect for the film ("You don't have a lucky crackpipe?!?")

Also, I would have preferred to have gone my entire life without seeing Harvey Keitel hang dong and masturbate (simulated, but still.)

The original Bad Lieutenant, regardless of the film as a whole, contains a masterful performance by Keitel who is a great American actor. He is stunning in that picture.

I agree. He was utterly brilliant in that lurid film. He's one of my favorite actors, period.

The exact dates haven't been announced, but you can count on it being in July.

So does anyone know why Moonrise Kingdom was pushed back? I thought it was an error but it been changed for days now :S

I know it didn't seem ready as there was no artwork, maybe they announced by accident?

Since he's one of your favourite actors, i wonder if you have watched Ulysse's Gaze.
(I haven't)

Well, since no one that frequents this forum, as far as I know, is "in the know" of what goes on within Criterion's offices I'm going to say that no one knows a definitive reason as to why this particular release has been delayed. However, I'm sure there are plenty of reasons that could have delayed the release... one of them not being an "accidental announcement." There have been other movies announced previously on Criterion's site without finalized artwork and with no change to their release date. It's possible that some unforeseen circumstances arose that caused Criterion to make the decision to push the release date back. Under the Disc Features section there is the "More!" part of unannounced features, which could have something to do with the delay. "More!" could just be a new interview or two that have now been rescheduled due to the current schedules of cast/crew that were involved in the film. The only way to really find out, though, is to try contacting Criterion for information.

It looks like we're getting a new 4K-derived Blu-ray of The Third Man in the UK in July.

Moonrise Kingdom was probably delayed for Anderson's brother to finish the cover artwork. He's done the art for all of the Criterion editions and they didn't show it with their release announcement so it probably isn't finished.

Criterion's Harakiri BD (2011) uses the old HD master used by Criterion for their DVD release (2005). It has a dated look due to it being dated, sharpened and contrast-boosted (which further enhance the impression of sharpness). It is also pictureboxed as some older Criterion DVDs (bad practice if you ask me, even more now on BD).

While it's certainly not bad (especially compared to digital disasters like some coming from Universal, for instance), it certainly was disappointing.

BTW, I re-read Svet's review of the US Harakiri disc which states that "Criterion's high-definition transfer appears to have been sourced from the same Shochiku master which British distributors Eureka Entertainment had access to when they prepared their Blu-ray release of Harakiri."

However, the Criterion BD does not use the Shochiku master. Criterion used a 35mm fine grain preservation master from the original camera negative for their 2005 DVD release, which is what has been used for the BD. They said it was because "there was some evidence that the left edge of the negative had shredded, and that may account for the left-side cropping, which would have occurred at the photochemical stage, when making our fine grain. The new Shochiku restoration appears to have addressed that issue, but at the expense of some detail." That's why they chose to use their own master for the BD.

They would not delay something two months for something like this. The cover would have been commissioned months ago and though it may not be ready the idea it would still not be ready in two more months would be insane.

It's more likely delayed due to some feature they need more time to implement. I think there's a *light* possibility they will be releasing Grand Budapest Hotel at the same time (judging on the fact Budapest's price dropped so quickly that it may have already reached pretty much the maximum audience of its life as the current version). It's more likely just some other feature or something boring rather than anything though.

Before Midnight just dropped in price. I'm hoping the "Before" trilogy will be announced soon.

The Before trilogy is something that I really want to see. Along with Moonrise Kingdom. And Mulholland Drive. Just like everyone else.

Just pulled the trigger on Scanners finally. Hope I enjoy the picture quality, it looks really dim and dull in screenshots compared to the UK disc. Oh well.

Also got Brazil and Repo Man. All three are DVD upgrades (my DVD list on here is insanely incomplete).

Isn't there typically a B&N B2G1 BD sale in May, also?
