The Apu Trilogy is well worth the money. Definitely going to be buying that box set. Cannot wait to watch them.

I agree. I'm inclined to say that the only people not interested in The Apu Trilogy are ones who haven't seen it. But not everyone can be interested in everything.

In this set of announcements, the only one I'm not interested in is Don't Look Back. I'm not really into documentaries unless the subject particularly fascinates me, and Dylan isn't one of those.

Speak for yourself, I haven't seen The Apu Trilogy and I'm very interested in getting it.

The Apu Trilogy is the rare release that I emphatically think should not be separated into single disc releases. Sure, Pather is the best of the three, but they complement each more than any other Criterion box that I can think of.

What a month!

In the case of Don't Look Back and In Cold Blood, despite being a compulsive and degenerate blu-ray buyer, I won't even need to replace the previous releases. Something on the wind must have been telling me to hold out.

Yeah, restraint!

I have not seen any of the November titles, but I plan to blind buy The Apu Trilogy and Ikiru.

As far as the other three (Code Unknown, Don't Look Back, In Cold Blood), I plan to watch them online before committing to a purchase.

Thank you for taking a bullet for the team.

Me, I bought the Sony release of In Cold Blood a few months back, albeit in a bargain bin. You can thank me later.

Guess I'm only getting In Cold Blood from the new announcements. Good too, it save me $ to grab some of the other CC I want during the November sale.

I think you're misreading his Venn diagram.

He's saying the people expressing disinterest probably haven't seen them.

He's not saying that all the people who haven't seen them are disinterested.

What a fantastic year this has been for Criterion, IMO! Two of my most wanted titles have been/ are being released by them (Don't look Now, Mulholland Dr.), and the same for two of my most wanted upgrades (Honeymoon Killers, Ikiru).

Can't believe Ikiru is finally coming out!

My sort of skeptic stance to Criterion's QC dictates that I don't pre-order anything from them anymore and wait for reviews, but, man, this one is definitely tempting.

I am going for Ikiru, and could see myself getting Apu, Don't look Back, and In Cold Blood down the line.

I didn't say that everyone who hasn't seen the Trilogy isn't interested in it, but that those who aren't interested in it haven't seen it. I don't mind getting slammed for making a broad generalization, but not for making a broad generalization that I didn't actually make.

On edit: OK, I just realized that I encouraged all of you to slam me for what I actually did say. Slam away. Get it out of your system.

It's pretty rare that we don't get a site review before the street date ( at least I think it is, I might have tunnel vision because I almost never preorder or buy Criterions on release date).

Which is always nice but is particularly nice in July and November.

I apologize for misrepresenting your comment (I don't know if that sounds genuine, because it's hard to tell on the internet, but it sincerely is).

Drunken Angel would be nice too. If I could only have one I'd probably go with Stray Dog but it would be a tough call.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I would advise against blind buying the Apu Trilogy. They're not bad, but I don't think they're particularly accessible either. Full disclosure: I've only watched the first 2 movies (seeing Apursansar tomorrow night)

The restorations are beautiful though, and worth seeing on a big screen if they are playing near you.

In Cold Blood sounds interesting and up my alley. Will have to research that one.

Highly recommend In Cold Blood. If you've seen Capote, then you know the story, but it is a solid adaptation of a terrific book, which I also recommend reading. The film has some great B&W photography with solid performances. Sorta eerie that Robert Blake plays a killer when .. uhh .. you know.

In Cold Blood, along with High and Low, gets my vote for the most powerful, spine-chilling closing shot in the history of motion pictures.
