Am I the only one here that doesn't like digipacks for the reason that they deteriorate more easily in time (even if you're as careful as can be) than the regular cases?

I find it's just the corners that get bumped and damaged a bit. quite a bit actually... but aside from that, they look very very good. if you treat them well, they'll be fine and look fine for the most part.

That is something I do not know. The retail stores and the website are somewhat separated. Even for ship-to-home orders made in store the order has to ship within the US (or, at least I believe so; I've never had someone try to ship something abroad).

Neither am I.
Hopefully this time around they are used only for select releases. Criterion got a lot of flack the last time they tried to use them and ended up re-releasing a number of titles in plastic cases as a result (or was it all of them?). I still have quite a few digipacks sitting on my shelf that I wish I had in plastic case form but have not gotten around to "upgrading". ![]() |

After all the excitement of watching my Royals make a miraculous comeback in the 8th inning of an elimination game for the second year in a row had ceded last night, I decided to watch Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion, and it did not disappoint. Gian Maria Volonté portrayed the sociopathic chief homicide inspector perfectly, and I enjoyed the rather scathing indictment of the Italian justice system during the "Years of Lead". Morricone's simple score was also very good. Are any of the other collaborations between Volonté and Petri worth watching?

I watched Ace in the Hole last night for the very first time and wow, this was one infuriating film.
Now I know why forum member Ausjdm sent me this as the grand prize for me winning the Fantasy baseball league we were in...because he couldn't stand the unlikeable characters in this movie. This is one futuristic film...futuristic in the way today's events and news end up becoming sensationalized and into circuses. It's totally tragic too...but I won't give away any spoilers. Ace in the Hole is a cautionary tale to say the least. Released in 1951, it was Billy Wilder's darkest film yet. Amazing how it could foretell the future of how journalism and the media report the news. It reminded me a bit of Nightcrawler, as morality and ethics play a major part in the story. Naturally, Kirk Douglas's character angered me tremendously. And the leading female character was even worse. A whole bunch of scumbags to say the least! I won't reveal any plot spoilers but wow, that ending...it just had to end the way it did. Back in 1951, there was such a thing as "production code" in that certain characters needed certain direction. Today, we don't have this type of "code" any longer. The code lasted from 1930 until 1968. It was a set of industry moral guidelines. Is anyone else a fan of production code? I am not, with a resounding no. Speak and be heard. |

I am not a fan of the "Hays" Code itself, though I do enjoy some of the creative innuendo writers/directors had to come up with to circumvent it, e.g. the "firewood" scene in Jubal, or the implied sexual relationship between Gutman and Wilmer in The Maltese Falcon.

My guess is that wasn't planned to have a digipak release originally but they probably didn't had two disc scanavo cases at the time. Based solely on look, feel and care taken to create the packaging, I think some of their finest releases are digipaks, Breathless, Dazed and Confused, A Hard Days Night, The Battle of Algiers, and Sweet Smell of Success comes to mind. |

I love Pre-code! Although technically it should be called pre-enforced code since it had been drawn up (then promptly ignored) during the silent era but not strictly enforced until 1934.

Dude, where the hell do you live? On top of Mount Everest? Paper, especially cardboard doesn't deteriorate just like that if you're only somewhat careful. There are books that are many hundreds of years old.

![]() They also offer a plastic replacement for The Last Emperor, which is also the first type digipak: ![]() Their newer digipaks are better. And the main reason they use these for most of their digipak releases is because the book that they include is too thick to fit in the plastic case: ![]() However, in this case, it might also be because Lynch himself prefers the digipak packaging. Other than Eraserhead, the Twin Peaks box set also has a digipak-like packaging, which I'm sure he was involved with the design of. |
