It's my favorite film. And Criterion will do it. Don't care.

My guess is they may include the changing aspect ratios that was on the original Criterion LD. I doubt we'll get the Pie Fight extra, given the insistence of Kubrick's estate on the matter.

The only thing I could think of is that maybe through the Kubrick estate they may finally let someone get some bonus features that would be grand. That is the only reason for a new Special Edition and it really needs to be the Ultimate version released.

I wish for this also. Same for The Shining too! and both with ATMOS Audio. Ok I can dream

I own Dr. Strangelove on blu-ray as part of the Stanley Kubrick Limited Edition Collection that is now going for $250 on Amazon. I bought it when it originally was released for like $60 or something.

For sure, I will double-dip for this movie, because Criterion makes everything so sweet and savory.

and I do own the blu ray which I added to my collection years ago.............. and still have never watched it!!!!

Wow, I'm getting a bit disturbed here reading a few posts from forum members who've never seen Dr. Strangelove yet! Am I in the Twilight Zone?

It is a harder to find film on Blu-Ray. I only got to see it because of the exclusive steelbook release.

As long as we're talking about Kubrick, a Criterion release of "Barry Lyndon" sure would be nice.

Same here and I have the digibook. This will be my 3rd copy of Strangelove. And, I'm not turning loose of the other versions.

Unless Criterion just completely goes overboard with supplements this one is a surprise to me.

Kubrick at his best. It's a must see and a must own.

A Clockwork Orange would be a fantastic release as well... if they also do The Shining then I would be able to replace my triple pack.

I don't have this in my collection, so it would be wonderful if this is one of the films they got licensed from Warner Bros.

Great news about Dr. Strangelove

IMO, all of Kubrick's films should be a part of the Criterion Collection. On Blu-ray of course

Hopefully more to come in the future.

I have it as well. It's a beautifully put together set, with the matching themed disc art to the pages. The disc slots are tight as hell though

There's still a gigantic amount of material the world hasn't seen in the Kubrick archive, which I really hope gets used for more things in the future. It includes 96 numbered betamax tapes titled 'shining doc' that the archive site says can't be played

I emailed Lee Unrich about them once (as he runs theoverlookhotel.com) and he replied

Quote:
It's more of an issue of proper conservation, and the money to pay for it, than just finding the right equipment.

They also have all of Vivian's 16mm negative that she shot on set. Unfortunately, the sound is missing. They're hoping to pull the sound from those betamax cassettes, which had been used for editing.

I am confident the footage will someday come into public view.
I'm so jealous of the people who's job it is to go through all that stuff! I'm sure there are some Strangelove delights to be found in it as well...
