I wonder when we'll see "Hour of the Wolf"? It'd be nice for an October announcement (well, for me).

This is my list for my online B&N order:

Dr. Strangelove
Bicycle Thieves
Bitter Rice
Lady Snowblood
The Manchurian Candidate
In Cold Blood
Downhill Racer
Grey Gardens
Ikiru
The Graduate
In A Lonely Place
Only Angels Have Wings
Make Way for Tomorrow

Big list, I am splurging this year. I am going to add one or two titles shortly before I order. Any suggestions? Please note my collection, I own a lot already. Thanks guys!

I just saw The Devil's Backbone (finally!) and I really liked it. It's not as good as Pan's Labyrinth but I liked it more than Cronos. I love the atmosphere and although it was somewhat predictable, I was entertained the whole time. It also reminded me of Crimson Peak because it was not a horror ghost story but a tragic one.

Now I need to make time to see Ikiru, Apu, Tokyo Story and Leon Morin.

I'm also planning which films to buy in the November B&N sale (I can't buy any this month). I know there's still time but it's always fun to plan ahead. So far, the films I plan to buy are:

The Manchurian Candidate
The Kid
Dr. Strangelove
Dekalog
Sullivan's Travels
A Touch of Zen
Pan's Labyrinth
Fantastic Planet.

I'm so lucky they are showing it - and only cost £5!

Going to be spectacular. Got his other films all booked as well... so happy to have this opportunity!

Wonder if anyone will walk out during opening sequence haha!

I saw Solaris on the big screen a couple of years ago, and I was blown away. It's such a remarkable work of cinema all around, but seeing it in a theater was a magnificent experience.

Good deal. I doubt I could handle a full-blown Tarkovsky marathon if one played anywhere near me, but it would be tempting to see the couple I haven't seen yet (The Mirror, The Sacrifice). At this point though, I'm just holding out for the full box set from Artificial Eye.

Solaris and Stalker would be the ones that impress me the most with their content, textures, patterns, and such--those should be phenomenal on the big screen. Need to see Ivan's Childhood again to see how it holds up--should be nice in the cinema.

On a somewhat related note, I placed a book order on B&N. I really have an urge to read the original Solaris and Roadside Picnic (basis for Stalker), I'm interested to see how they compare to their respective adaptations.

I also put Hard To Be A God, Metro 2033, Fight Club, All You Need Is Kill, and Ready Player One in that order. Three Russian sci-fi books and four others that are surely up my alley--I've never been more excited over a book order.

The Mirror is my favorite from him, think that's in August though so bit of a wait...

I'm coming to the screening straight from. 12 hour shift (no breaks) so will be a challenge but will be worth it (Andrei Rublev was a challenge after the long shift but so rewarding)!

Does anybody else think the Warner release of Mishima has better colours than the Criterion release?

I wonder what it'll look like when it finally hits blu-ray.

I consider Lem's Solaris to be the supreme work of science fiction literature. Enjoy.

The Mirror is my favorite from him as well, although I do love Andrei Rublev and Solaris. 12 hour shift with no breaks?! What do you do, man??

I enjoyed Lem's Solaris a lot. I know that Lem hated the film version. I suspect it's because it changed focus from the book's point of
[Show spoiler]the "unknowability" of a truly alien life form
to one of
[Show spoiler]speculating what it means to be human
. (Spoilered just in case someone's sensitive to my speculation.)

I should read Roadside Picnic.

Looks like BNTROPICAL isn't working anymore

Edit: Scratch that. For some reason it didn't work when I was logged into my account, but did when I was off....

Picked up the Bridge and Wim Wenders Road Trilogy.

Yesterday I stopped by a B&N and bought On the Waterfront. Funny enough, the store that I bought it at is in a shopping center called the Waterfront! (It's surrounded by one of Pittsburgh's rivers). Dr. Strangelove was out of stock, so I'm going to stop by another store where I saw it in stock before the sale (like that means anything )

I ordered most of my titles online using the BNTROPICAL code. I ordered:

-The Darjeeling Limited
-Dressed to Kill
-The Game
-Modern Times
-The Player
