We need a Blu-ray upgrade of Kurosawa's Stray Dog, since it's his best film noir.

It would be amazing if Election is announced on Monday, but I won't hold my breath. I believe I saw a hint for Noah Baumbach's "The Squid and the Whale" back in January. Hopefully Criterion announces that for a November or December release. It's probably not part of Criterion's plans just yet, but I'd love to see a blu-ray upgrade of Baumbach's Kicking & Screaming as well.

I just pre-ordered Cat People and Blood Simple from Family Video, since these Blu-rays are only $23.99 there, and since that site has only $1.99 shipping for any size order.

I'm really excited to see what Criterion has done with Cat People. This is going to be epic.

I don't get it, Owl. If you simply wait until the B&N November sale, the most that you would pay for those titles is $20 + tax. It would probably be less money if you throw in B&N Membership, B&N MasterCard, and B&N coupons, including the re-usable 35% off Black Friday coupon. In addition, when you buy $75 worth of gift cards, you get the $10 kickback. The prospect for owning Cat People is very exciting to me, too, but my rationalization would be: I have waited since "the advent of blu-rays" to receive this movie, surely I can wait two more months.

I want to see Blu-ray upgrades for already released movies that have had a restoration and/or new scan since they were last released on blu-ray. There are "Beauty and the Beast," "The Leopard," "8 1/2?" possibly others.

Probably has been mentioned before on this gigantic thread, but this is a good source for Criterion-related chuckles and giggles and laughs:

Ha!

The lure of getting Cat People in November for probably three dollars and 14 cents cheaper than I will in September was almost too strong, but I prevailed and placed the pre-order to get it in September anyway.

One reason is that I happen to have the money to order the Criterion title right now, and I'm going to need my November budget for the five...yes, five...classic-era film noir releases from Kino Lorber that month.

DEAD PRESIDENTS most of all. [snip]
That would be welcome, but of the LD titles that they never released on DVD -- and haven't been released (at least in the US) on Blu-ray yet -- my vote would go for (in descending order):

Why Has Bodhi-Dharma Left for the East?
El Cid
Montenegro (they did a Dušan Makavejev Eclipse set, so...)
Crash (Cronenberg)
The Return of Martin Guere
Damage

Ones currently owned by Warner:

The Asphalt Jungle
Bad Day at Black Rock
The Magnificent Ambersons
Swing Time
Show Boat
Arsenic and Old Lace

And for good measure:

A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies

Which was quite remarkable in editing the first two movies into one film with all the gory "best of" moments
