Anybody taking part in the B&N 50% off sale? Took time to grab Dr. Strangelove on Blu and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls on DVD.

I'm going to NYC on the 14th and I plan to buy The Kid, Pan's Labyrinth, Dekalog, The Manchurian Candidate and Blood Simple.

Rebecca, Spellbound, and Notorious are all speculated to get CC releases since they're all OOP.

I would love a CC release of Notorious. It's one of my favorite Hitchcock films.

Anyone else go to Barnes & Noble and see a smaller selection of Criterions than usual? They weren't in the regular display, just some smaller little squarish thing. Probably a quarter of their usual selection was there at most.

Thankfully found Five Easy Pieces, though.

anyone know why b&n doesn't carry the Classic Hitchcock set?

https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/11...q=autocomplete

just checked amazon and it seems only 3rd party sellers have it for sale.

is it exclusive to the criterion site?

Don't hold me to this, but I think they only sell that at Costco for some reason.

And with this afternoon's purchase... I'm out for this one!

I think. Maybe this if we manage to use a 30% BF this year:

Just a head's up if anyone is interested in the Region A Canadian release of The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, I managed to get a new one on eBay for $20 with the best offer option here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131803913132...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I assume it should look the same as the UK studio canal release.

Anyway maybe it could be gotten by offering even a bit less, who knows

^^^ Nice haul. M and Marketa Lazarova are great. Everything else oughta keep you busy for a while.

My haul this cycle is humble, and it arrived today:

I had the Coen Bros box set already, and I didn't want to part with it or break it down. My solution: remove my old copy of Blood Simple and replace it with the shiny new Criterion copy. Needed to swap out two movies out of their cases into Viva Elite cases--it gave just enough room for the thicker Criterion case, and it all's smooth and nice.

I previously modded this box before with Fargo (swapped it for the 4K remastered version, added the DVD copy). Unless all these bad boys get the Criterion treatment, I figure this is the best it can be for now.

I thought that was at first, but then I found the usual row. Its a big sale, so they had 3 spots for them.

This means it's coming by courier which may have customs issues for you.

I usually order between 6-8 Criterion blus at every B+N sale (I ordered 9 in July), but this time I only went for 3. There just weren't that many titles released this year that really grabbed me, and the ones that did were released in the first half of the year, with the exception of McCabe and Chimes which I pre-ordered because I desperately wanted.

I ordered the following: Pan's Labyrinth (despite the mixed reports about the transfers), One Eyed Jacks (blind purchase) and The Music Room. That's it for me at the moment. There is a possibility that I might cave in and make another order towards the end of the sale, but it's doubtful at this point.

I had to make blu-ray #500 in my collection something memorable, and the only film that came to mind was my favorite from my hometown's own Robert Altman. The Criterion Blu-ray release of the film and the Barnes and Noble 50% off sale couldn't have come at a better time (and luckily, my guy will still override the coupons for me!)

I think that's safe to say.

On Wednesday, I picked up Dekalog and the two Seijun Suzuki films (Tokyo Drifter and Branded to Kill -- I've had both of them on both LD and DVD for ages, and finally got around to upgrading).

Today, I picked up the del Toro set.
