It would definitely benefit from the Criterion treatment. ... and it would also heal my aching heart that has been wanting to see it on Blu-ray. |

Man, I might be in the minority here, but I'm disappointed by "Sixteen Candles" being included. I saw that movie for the first time this year and it was single-handedly one of the most racist, misogynistic, disgusting, and immoral movies I'd seen in a long time. Absolutely repulsive. And I'm definitely not a guy prone to knee-jerk reactions AT ALL, but this movie just left me aghast.

I can't find a way to shoehorn in Le Samourai for any of these clues.
I hope Mr. Mulvaney suspended his mailbox account. [Show spoiler]

And I'm speaking also as an Asian viewer here. As far as I'm concerned, The Breakfast Club is the most deserving Hughes film for a prestige release. What ever its flaws, it is an important film for Gen Xers, just as The Big Chill seems to mean something to Boomers. Sixteen Candles is a minor work imo. |

I've almost completely lost hope in seeing Blu upgrades for "The Naked City", "Le Samourai", and "Blast of Silence". Ah, well...
A few months ago I saw on Facebook a trailer for a banned sci-fi movie that was getting a festival rerelease and it looked awesome... it was Russian? Or Polish? I don't remember, but the visuals were very post-apocalyptic and surreal with muted colors, almost black & white. I wish I could remember the name of it... I definitely remember thinking it looked up Criterion's alley. |

Hmmm, looked it up and doesn't seem to fit. The movie I'm thinking about was like about a war between humans and aliens in the future? The movie was banned because it was all a metaphor for the government in power in that country at that time when it was made. I remember the footage was mostly soldiers on a deserted street fighting some weird alien creatures.
The clip I saw was heralding a remaster and rerelease and talking about how it'd been banned for decades. |
