Quick question: I've read rumblings that while this year's big Criterion box set is the Olympics collection, for next year an Ingmar Bergman box is in the works. Forgive me if it's been asked here before but I'm curious as to whether anyone has any details regarding this. Thanks in advance!
I would actually hope that we don't get one big box set. I already have several previously released BDs. I'd hope we'd get upgrades of the Faith Trilogy as well as a box set containing Hour of the Wolf, Shame, and The Passion of Anna. And then we'd get individual upgrades, too (The Virgin Spring, Sawdust and Tinsel, Scenes from a Marriage, The Magic Flute, maybe even an upgrade of the Eclipse set, etc.). But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

All of the Bergman comments and his upcoming centennial has really put me on high alert. Talk of a possible boxed set and upgrades would be most welcome. I have faith in Criterion and feel they'll do justice this coming year.
Bergman's films seem to be very polarizing and worthy of debate. I don't watch his films to be entertained, I just let them take over my senses and I sit and ponder in either depression, despair or just revel in being introduced to a way of life I'm unfamiliar with.

The Virgin Spring was my introduction to Bergman films and it had a profound effect on me. From there, I jumped right into his film cataloge with such a fervor and have rarely been disappointed.

So confusing but its Lynch so I would be super sad if it wasnt lol
Here's the best order for viewing of the Twin Peaks series...

1. Season One (do not watch the International Cut of the Pilot episode, though, until after you're done with Season One and Season Two. Just watch the normal pilot episode, and then go back to the International Cut after you've watched the first two seasons. Or skip the international cut altogether...)

2. Season Two

3. Fire Walk with Me

4. The Missing Pieces (deleted scenes collection from Fire Walk with Me)

5. Season Three

For the longest while I held off on Asphalt Jungle to see if Eureka or Arrow were putting it out for region B, but I decided to (ha) bite the bullet today and ordered the US disc from Wow HD. I've seen the film a long while ago and found it a riveting crime drama...I believe it also had Marilyn Monroe in a small part? Looking forward to catch the film again and also the Sterling Hayden documentary.

It is a Warner Brothers title, so no chance of either of those happening. I am surprised that Criterion didn't release this in the UK.

I GENUINELY DISLIKE Fire Walk With Me. 3 cardinal sins committed:

1. Over explains, negates the mystery of Laura's character and her effect as catalyst for the events of the series.

2. Cameos, cameos, cameos. "Hey I'm friends with David Lynch and I'd like a spot in the Twin Peaks universe even though I'll serve no purpose." Nuts to that crap.

3. Recasting/missing characters. (Probably not Lynch's fault here. But still a strike against the film nonetheless.)

I honestly wish I hadn't seen this film. It did nothing but retract from my Twin Peaks viewing experience. I may be a minority with this view, but just my honest assessment.

I watched it for the first time recently and thought it was terrible. The only David Lynch film I disliked. The acting was really bad. Lynch's cameo was cringeworthy.

The train-car scene from FWWM haunts me to this day.

And if you're watching mostly for continuity with Season 3, you can basically skip episodes 11-20 of S2 (or 12-20, if you wanna meet one of the minor characters in ep. 11 who makes a very brief return in S3). Save yourself those hours and just read episode summaries somewhere.

Have you watched the show? It's not really a cameo... Lynch appears in person in several episodes of S2, and you hear him on the phone in a few more, including once in S1. It's more of a supporting part. And he's one of the main characters of S3, though that wouldn't have been known at the time.

I've seen some of the first season but it just wasn't my cup of tea. It didn't really interest me too much which could probably be one of the reasons I didn't like the film. I watched the film first before I completed the series because some people had told me that I didn't really need to watch the series first since the film is mostly a prequel to the show.

Fire Walk With Me is great and it made me appreciate the show even more. And I'm glad that I watched the film after the series as I cared about the characters more because of

[Show spoiler]
What what say what? Why did Barnes & Noble ship City Lights to you in a DVD case.

That's definitely a repackage. Send it back to B&N.

And of course they are out of stock. My copy of Letter Never Sent has a rip in the back as well. That is out of stock as well. Only thing they can do is refund me? Not send me another copy when it comes back in stock. The hell B&N? Oh, and the person says I can't return it to the store because it is damaged and the store won't accept it. Ridiculous.

Did you order new copies of these Blu-rays from B&N or did you order third-party copies through B&N?

If these are supposed to be new copies that B&N is shipping to you, then that's a problem.

They wouldn't send me another copy of my lost shipment whether it was in stock or not.

New copies. From them. And to add insult to injury, they send me a generic 20% coupon off 1 item. Thanks.
