The new site is sleek and wide open (in terms of "wide openness" from a John Ford film).
However, it will take some time to get used to the new redesign, and as Great Owl said, the "Release Dates" should appear on the Coming Soon page. For now, the ones listed at the top are the most recent titles added. The one thing the new site does extraordinarily well is showcase larger versions of trailers in a carousel-like gallery of clips and videos. I like the "Quick Shop" button so you stay on the page you're scrolling on but want to see a preview of the release. Also, I'm kind of glad that leaks/phantom pages won't be happening anymore. No more spoilers! Everyone will be guessing from here on! Overall, good redesign! |

New site is clearly optimized for small touch screens and big fat fingers. And thus it became indistinguishable from every other website optimized for small screens and fat fingers. Big background picture and a little text with a 3D effect and near-endless scrolling, screen after screen after screen...

On the plus side, they don't have ads embedded on every scroll. Yet. |

Woof. I miss the old site. It wasn't broken. No need to "fix" it.
Browsing titles is a lot worse, and they got rid of "Browse themes" which various movie groupings to explore the collection. Scrolling on a Samsung Galaxy S7, and it's really jerky. |

Blimey. Take a perfectly functional and aesthetically agreeable site and change it for change's sake - diminishing the user experience in the process. So many sites seem to fall for it. I suppose on the plus side, if phantom pages have been eliminated, that will stop spoilers (I know some folk enjoyed that game, but I never understood it).

I don't do it as much right now, but I've done web design for years. I understand the need for "eye candy"-a company wants to have some wow factor to their site. But I'm a strong proponent of clean design, and easy navigation. All the "flash" in the world is wasted if your customer cannot find what they need or want. I always viewed my work as the one chance to make an impression on a potential customer/client. If they like what they see, and can spend the time they need, comfortably navigating the site and finding what they need, they're likely to come back. If the site provides a bad experience, that customer might never come back. Lost revenue is a big no no. So clean, elegant design is the way to go. Of course, we're going to put up with a cumbersome design, especially around Flash sale time. For $20 Criterions, we'd put up with the Rapture. ![]() |
