I'm to the point where I'm absolutely done with re-releases, they bore the shit out of me 99.9% of the time, and just want stuff released from VHS/non-anamorphic DVD prison.
I don't really see it either, at least from the currently existing boutique's. I think if they were going to do it, it would be happening now. And while I know there's a customer for everything, I suspect $50-$60 list priced Criterion's would create a firestorm. And way too much classic stuff not even on HD.

It's amazing to me that Malick either has lovers or haters...doesn't seem many are middle of the road with his body of work.
I think that's becoming the case with a lot of directors nowadays be they the types releasing Criterion bound titles (such as Malick) or more commercial types such as Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan etc. Seems a lot of people can only react to their works in an extreme way and can see no merit in anything they do once their minds are made up.

The middle-grounders are around, they're just silently rolling their eyes at the idiots on either side of them for the most part.

The stronger your opinion, the more likely you are to come and post about it.

I think with the announcement of Tree of Life, the 2018 New Year's Drawing is complete.

It's part of the clue for Bowling for Columbine. The BfC cover art also matches that motif.

Love that they are adding "Heaven Can Wait" to the collection.

Would have been really cool if they could have made it a double-bill with "Midnight ", another fantastic film starring Don Ameche, directed by Mitchell Leisen, with screenplay by Brackett & Wilder. Definitely deserves a Blu-ray release.

I like "Midnight", but if they're going for Claudette Colbert movies scripted by Wilder and Brackett, I personally would push for "Bluebeard's Eighth Wife" first.

If they're going for more Brackett & Wilder then I propose The Lost Weekend. Surprised this isn't on BluRay in the US when Eureka released it in the UK. Lost Weekend won 4 awards(best director, best picture, best screenplay, and best actor).

That should be coming soon, the TCM festival in April included a new restoration.

I'm a Lubitsch fan, but I found Heaven Can Wait to be a weaker effort. It just falls flat compared to his other great films I think, however I'm glad films like it are being released.

Very cool - although I still feel a bit shortchanged by the FilmStruck stream. I think we should get a supplemental Summer drawing.

Here's the one for 2017. It's much more cluttered, and I still don't know what the T in the back is for. Also, still no Sixteen Candles.

I'm a life-long apartment-dwelling night owl who will be moving into a house soon and one of the things I'm most looking forward to is not having to tiptoe around at 3am anymore. Soon I'll be able to stomp around 24/7

For some reason I just couldn't take the movie seriously after that. It's a great anti-war film but it doesn't accurately portray the horrors of war as well as other war films out there.
It is a take on the emotional side of war, rather than the physical

I definitely think it better than Saving Private Ryan & think it was a shame that the two films came out so closely together, SPR got all the attention plus more that rightfully belonged to TTRL

Same here usually I don't get to sleep till 4-5 AM. That allows a fair share of movie watching.

I'm a night owl, too. I get up between 3 PM and 7 PM depending on how I feel, then I'm up to between 3 AM and 8 AM.
