Definitely more so. Those are great, great musicians. Karol in Three Colors White is a loser's loser.

First foray into the B&N sale, and picked up Tokyo Story, The Virgin Spring, and Watership Down.

What I'm really waiting for is the release of A Matter of Life and Death later this month.

Plus, I'm intrigued by Cat People. Is it worth a blind-buy by someone who is not a fan of the horror genre, but can appreciate a good supernatural thriller and is particularly interested in atmospheric B&W cinematography?

I have already mentioned this elsewhere, but if this is a clue to a December release, then chances are we will not get a Criterion edition of SUPERMAN in time for its 40th anniversary.

This will leave either Shout Select or WB to do a proper SE of it. At this point we could be looking at an in-house release.

Keep in mind what capedwonder.com said. Surprises are in store, so miracles may still happen.

Absolutely. It’s definitely a film about the power of suggestion, and has probably my favorite B&W horror cinematography this side of The Innocents.

Another thing they've cracked down on.
They still do ship to home with pay in advance and extra 10% membership discount. As for the titles due just after the end of the sale, wait 'til later in the sale and they may be included.

I did find:

The Awful Truth
Midnight Cowboy
Age of Innocence
Moonrise
Tom Jones

I had to have an employee dig through an unopened shipment to even get those.
I'd imagine this is due to the sale being bumped up so suddenly. My store hadn't received the regular stock influx they get for the sale, with only single copies of what they did have.

Even if I feel it's not quite as good as its reputation would lead you to believe, it's definitely worth multiple watches, is beautifully shot, and has several iconic scenes that any cinephile should be familiar with—at least two of which anyone whose seen it will know immediately without having to say anything else.

Went a little overboard this time around on the B&N sale but managed to narrow my choices down to 10 titles:

The Passion of Joan of Arc
M
Moonrise
Hiroshima Mon Amour
Elevator to the Gallows
The Virgin Spring
The Naked Kiss
Blow-Up
Midnight Cowboy
Stalker

I'll let my wallet recover until the Criterion Flash Sale happens (Oct. ?)

Had about 12 movies in my cart at one point but ended up with

Three Colors trilogy
Innocents
The Uninvited

I'll save my truly irresponsible spending for the next Criterion flash sale.

Started with over 15 titles but common sense prevailed (again).

Good choices btw!

Tom Jones
Sex, Lies, and Videotape
Virgin Suicides
Awful Truth
Election

Wasn't expect this sale for another week, thanks for the head's up

Yeah the one I went to this morning hadn't set up at all. No signs or anything. One of the associates came over after I was almost done and she started moving things around and bringing some of the movies to a 50% off table that was empty at the time.

REALLY didn't like Cat People. I'd say it's a risky buy, but I seem to be in the minority.

Bought 5 today, and considering another five (definitely getting 3 of them) somewhere towards the end of the month.

Today? Barry Lyndon, The Breakfast Club, Female Trouble, Heaven’s Gate, & The Lure.

Hoping to grab: Blood Simple, Fish Tank, Insignificance, The Virgin Suicides, & either The Brood or Women in Love, since Oliver Reed needs some representation on my shelf and The Devils is nowhere to be seen.

(looks at newsletter clue)

"Oh, this is easy. BIG? In a suit? BIG suit? It's David Byrne's True Stories!!"

(looks at forum)

"Umm, I mean, it's so obviously 'Notorious'."

(looks around embarrassed)

Thanks. I guess the 50% sale is the time to take that risk.

Cat People is awesome.

Can anyone tell me how to sort the catalog by just "blu-rays" at Criterion's site now? Can't for the life of me figure it out. Their site used to be so easy to navigate, not sure why they mucked it up.

And its really bugging me that the My Criterion is still under construction. I mean they could have built an actual building in all this time.
