I noticed that during the sale last November, as well. They didn't slash as low as B&N, but they definitely knocked them down.

I agree. I have Dvds from criterion that the bluray counterpart don't even match , the art, the case.....since the failing start to put DVD/Bluray editions together, I noted , that Criterion change the standard..... Maybe to make money, maybe to survive in the market....I dont know

Ha, yeah me too. That always seemed perfect coming from Scott - who coincidentally completely deserved the award. And that prima donna line in Patton could have applied to the actor as much as the general. I mostly view the Oscar's as chum for movie fans, and I still get a kick out of them - warts & all.

It's interesting that they just used the original poster art for The Breakfast Club. It's that iconic.

Picked up The Black Stallion. Most of it looks fantastic-
A few darker scenes- like the scene at night at the race track- I'm seeing a lot of compression artifacts. It looks similar to low/poor stream quality.
Anyone else notice this on this disc?

I'm using a Oppo 203 to a LG G6 Oled.

Other than losing a lot of booklets, I don't see that. I was just marveling at the care put into the Hedwig set - I mean, not only is it packed with supplements, the whole thing is filled with dynamic artwork AND you get excerpts from Plato and the Gospel of Thomas. The True Stories set is endearing and magnificent. And we don't even need to get into the Bergman masterpiece. They put this stuff out all the time.

FYI: Unlike the re-release of Red River, which drops the DVDs and retains the novel, the re-release of Picnic at Hanging Rock drops everything except the Blu-ray.

Posters for Streetwise and its follow-up, Tiny, advertising restoration and theatrical release. Possible future Criterion titles?

In general, I think most poster art (particularly for movies that make it into the Criterion Collection) is iconic and should be used as the DVD/Blu-ray art. I rarely find the newly commissioned art surpasses the original. To me, it's part of the movie. Just my opinion.

I went to a Barnes & Noble during lunch and bought Multiple Maniacs, Female Trouble, and The Night Porter.

Yeah, I’m probably going to Hell.

Default Barnes and Noble question

I was adding stuff to my cart today, choosing the buy online and pick up in store option, but I wasn't seeing the 10% membership discount. Does the discount no longer work for the pick up in store option?

I suppose I could just go to the store and take them out of the racks myself, but I'd like to know that they have what I want in stock before I make the trip. It might affect which store I go to.

No. It kinda sucks now. They use to have it you can reserve it and pick it up in the store and check out in the store if you wanted to and also the website. they've changed too much on some things which they shouldn't have.

The film is often depressing, but brilliantly so. I'd love to see Criterion release this film.

As a Seattle resident back then, I often saw those kinds of kids on the city streets. There was an infamous donut shop that was a front for drugs and underage prostitution. I loved donuts, but I learned to steer clear of that particular shop. It was very near the famous Pike Place Market.
