I just bought War and Peace, I did not realize that movie was 7 hours... christ!
It's gonna take me a few days to finish.

Just got my copy of the BRD earlier and popped in Marriage, as it is one of my favorites from Fassbinder, and then threw in my dvd to compare. WOW!! what a nice upgrade. Right away, the clarity and depth is almost night and day, and I though the dvd set looked pretty good. Can't wait to enjoy all 3 this weekend!

It sucks my B&N does not carry movies. My B&N feels like there is not enough demand for people to buy movies anymore.

2 new store opened near me that don’t sell movies... the other ones that still do the electronics department has become kind of a place where they store overstock and overtaken by vinyl. The movie section and criterion section have become smaller and smaller. It sucks. I wouldn’t doubt if they eventually stop selling movies. They don’t even have anyone working back there anymore in any of the stores

B&N with a re-thought media section would be pretty killer imo

JUST specialty labels like Criterion & Arrow n more, CDs and vinyl

People would eat that up, it seems all they shop there for are Criterion titles anyway

If the Human Condition was upgraded would we get a standard case or a nice digipack? I long to upgrade that to BD but it probably never will but at least I have in my collection.

If you are region-free, there is a nice (and dirt cheap at the moment) region 2 BD release from Arrow Academy UK...

This has been on my radar for years now and was hoping for an upgrade too and finally gave in and purchased this during the sale. It arrived 3 days ago and I plan on watching it this week. I've heard many good things about this film.

If they priced them competitively, they might see the demand increase. Seriously, why are Criterions selling at full MSRP most of the year? Even Criterion sells them for less.

Do it. On the Waterfront was my first Criterion. I bought it as a blind buy, and it helped to ignite my love of classic film. It also started me down a very expensive path as a Criterion enthusiast.

I'm in the same boat. Always have to drive to an out of the way B&N. Soon there will be no B&Ns left to drive to.

I really hope Criterion is thinking ahead and finds another mainstream brick-and-mortar outlet for their movies and sales.

Members can easily bring it down $28.80 with a 20% off coupon. Also B&N has $20 price for 9-10 weeks/year. criterion only has that price for 2 days.

I agree that without membership/coupon B&N is costliest of all (except for those 30% off offers on some new releases).

Um, those member coupons specifically exclude Criterions. Also, Criterion sells their standard blu rays for $31.96 every day except for those two flash sale days.

Only during the 50% sales -- not the rest of the year

Plenty of sales vai Deep Discount often approaching $21-24.

OTOH, if I can't load up on everything I need in 10 weeks + 2 days then something is wrong. There is virtually nothing I need Day 1 other
than a few Limited Editions that are going to sell out immediately (not Criterion style). There is virtually no reason I can find to buy a Criterion for less than 40% off MSRP. Throw $10 into the Criterion bucket per week, save up for the half price sales and no difference in buying them all at once or buying them a couple at a time
