I have to say, your post and the too obvious part got me thinking "Maybe Fail Safe isn't so definite as it seems." I've been patting myself on the back the last few months for guessing the clues correctly. But, in the immortal words of the philosopher Gorilla Monsoon: "Remember, a pat on the back is just 18 inchs away from a kick in the a$$."

Or you could all be overanalyzing and the clue is supposed to be easy.

Absolutely. It’s obviously a clue for the standalone release of A Safe Place. The “F” is for “F the Haters.”

I think you've cracked it! Although, the F refers to Orson Welles who stars in A Safe Place and also directed F For Fake.

Have a feeling Warner is going keep that for themselves since they released an MOD DVD for it as part of the Warner Archive Collection.

Why? Warner Archive itself does great work and I would happily trust them upgrading Baby Doll.

I'd rather get special features and a cheaper price point.

I’d like to know you’re finding Criterions for a lower price point than 4/$44.

WAC titles are almost always a lower MSRP than Criterions and there are sales galore between the 4/$44 and the ever frequent 15% off coupon codes at Deep Discount.

A Criterion at a B&N sale is $19.99, a WAC release during a 4/44 is $11.

Where did you learn math?

I recently saw Cold War. This was on the UK blu from Artificial Eye, but I thought I'd also discuss my impressions of the movie here since there is to be a Criterion release in Nov, most probably based on the same source master.

IMO, Cold War is like a Euro mash of When Harry Met Sally and that Stanley Donen classic Two for the Road. Two people meet and fall in intense love, then part and repeatedly meet at different time points, and find that they can neither live with or without each other. Truth be told its acclaim seems a tad excessive - the socio-political backdrop adds some dimension, but it's lightweight emotionally, and seems to pay more attention to its gorgeously crafted B&W visual styling (and the terrific soundtrack, which in a good way brings to mind the scores of Kieslowski's movies like Double Life of Veronique and Three Colors: Blue). But it's a lovely date movie for arthouse couples

The 4:3 image is eye-poppingly gorgeous and surround mix lush and involving on the AE blu, as I imagine it will also be on the Criterion. Almost any frame in the film could be taken and hung up in a picture exhibition.

I think there's a lot going with these characters and they play out as an allegory for post-war identity struggle in Poland. Zula's compulsive destructive tendencies are linked with a deep patriotism that maybe even she isn't fully aware of and probably couldn't justify if asked to. She repeatedly punishes Wiktor for abandoning Poland; and she herself always either stays in Poland or goes back despite more logical motivation to leave. Wiktor's conscious choice to let her destroy him is also interesting.

And the way they capture that smokey 50's Paris jazz vibe is brilliant. I felt like I was there.
