They just shipped my Cameraman and Husbands for delivery on Monday, which would be day before street date, if that's helpful.

Usually right around street date. Also, you should take into account the pandemic which may make it arrive later than usual.

They ship around the Wednesday before the week of release. If you live close by the KY warehouse, you might get it the weekend before release date. If not, expect your copy to arrive around the Tuesday release date.

Me, I'm OK if the sale gets pushed back a bit. I'm exhausted from way too many sales over the past couple of months.
And, if you order titles in-store you can still apply the 10% member discount unlike ordering them online.

Could be some changes with that too. Still a little too early to tell what the new member POS computer update is doing, but a couple not good signs from the last couple days,.

As far as ordering them in store? What about in stock items on the shelf?

With most of the Barnes & Noble physical stores closed for a period of time because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it would be nice if they extended everyone's active membership by 1-2 months.

The assertion of a DoP who was not associated with the film, saying "Oh that wasn't their style" is not exactly conclusive evidence about screwing up. Kline may have been embarrassed because Coutard is a person he respects greatly and took his opinion seriously.

Same here, even if there is a sale as normal I probably will sit it out as I have so many pre-orders, there's been so many sales lately that I've bought stuff in, and so many films in my backlog I need to catch up on that it wouldn't bother me if the sale is pushed back say another month or so.

Though, I still have the Bruce Lee set on pre-order from Criterion as I had a $10 coupon and when it ships I will have the 500 points for the $50 coupon for the October flash sale. Have War of the Worlds on pre-order from BullMoose and will pull the trigger for The Cameraman at the beginning of the month. Unless there is something that blows me away that I must have Day 1 even for the yet TBA August titles I probably will be waiting for the flash sale Criterion has in October and go crazy there. I bet however there will be one title that will end up succumbing to pre-ordering

I would agree if the website wasn’t up and available for people to order all through the pandemic. But since you can still use it, then I don’t see them offering that.

Regarding brick and mortar stores such as Barnes & Noble:

My feelings are simple: Physical media deserves a physical store.

If I wanted to amass a huge collection of digital movies, I can click a button and I'd have the movie in AN INSTANT. Yes, instant gratification.

But there's something to the discovery, and the sheer joy of flipping through those plastic sealed blu-ray jewel cases in person and suddenly a real life human being walks over to you and notices you're holding a really cool Criterion like Hausu or Mishima and you strike up a conversation and end up talking for 15 or 20 minutes about movies and you end up becoming friends in real life and one day that friend introduces you to a woman who you fall in love with and marry and have kids and your entire life is changed forever.

Yet none of that would have ever occurred had you not been in a Barnes & Noble store in person searching for Criterions.

To me, physical media presents opportunities. Opportunities can change or alter the course of our lives. Sitting by ourselves and buying movies on a tv screen isn't the same thing and its dehumanizing and lacks the whole joy of social interaction as well as TOUCHING something real, something tangible, something that could change our lives that includes the human factor.

And this is why I love physical media. Because if I can hold a movie in my hand and not worry about it suddenly vanishing into thin air along some wireless connection, I feel reassured, I feel comforted, I feel I got my money's worth.

I hope Barnes & Noble's in-store Criterion sales I've been participating in over the past 10+ years continue. It's always something I enjoy every Summer (and Fall).

True. But this just may be because I haven't seen most of the films they mentioned or even heard of them. Nor do most of the films that they do release interest me at all. I feel like the box sets have a lot of hype but the individual release don't. The only ones that are worth the hype are for Come and See and Tokyo Olympiad SO FAR (I suspect there will be more wonderful films coming on OR BACK to the collection) I'll be excited to buy the boxsets nonetheless (Haven't seen much of Varda so I'll skip for now. Plus I don't think it will go OOP. i h o p e n o t)

Btw, Come and See is available to watch on Criterion Channel with the new restoration for those who are interested in the new restoration.

No, its just current unavailable which is not the same as being OOP, as you can see from the site listing at Criterion. To check if a title is OOP its best to type in the title you are interested at Criterion, if its OOP it will say [film x Out Of Print]. Currently Unavailable just means they are in between printings and in Repo Man's case the DVD is still available and if were OOP the DVD also would be listed as OOP not Currently Unavailable.

If Spike Jonze is right, you could in the future have a ScarJo voiced AI that you can fall in love with and have wonderful cyber-companionship.

Lee Kline says in the interview that Criterion took 3 years for the restoration of the Apu Trilogy, and that's just 3 films for which they already had the elements - granted, they were in terrible shape after they went through a fire, but it won't be easy for Criterion to find ready good elements for a lot of Indian classics.
