I would love to see some more Almodóvar (like Bad Education or Talk To Her), John Waters (Pink Flamingos or Cry-Baby in particular), and since we've been getting so much Mike Leigh, I am looking forward to eventually seeing Vera Drake in the collection. I would also love to see John Cameron Mitchell's Shortbus, as I stupidly sold my DVD a long time ago & now it's out of print in the US. All of those directors already have other films in the Criterion catalog, of course.

But it would also be great to get some Todd Solondz, like Welcome to the Dollhouse and/or Happiness.

Sorry I couldn't stick to just 5!

Why does it say "1996" and not "2003"????

Huh that's weird---Neon posted this on their Twitter too, so it's legit. Mistake perhaps?

There's so much revisionism, they even changed the year of the film!

The screenplay was based on a stage play on the subject which came out in 1996. So maybe that's where 1996 came from? Either way, I'm sure it will be fixed soon.

It's obviously a Blu-Ray of the Stage Performance itself.

Well they posted it before Criterion did. Maybe someone got temp art and was a little too excited to wait? lol

Just watched the Matthew Modine criterion closet video. First off I can’t be the only one losing their mind when they pick up the DVDs when the blu ray editions are there right?! Secondly I was wondering what he could be there for and he discussed working with Altman but only mentioned Short Cuts and a play he worked with Altman on, the 3rd time he worked with him was on Streamers. Maybe that could be getting prepped for release hence why he didn’t mention it. Probably just wishful thinking. I always want more Altman in the collection.

I wouldn't mind if Criterion were to make announcements on the second Friday of the month forever. It's a great way to start the weekend. One of the reasons I always like Arrows announcements.

You mean that "sometimes the 15th, but not always, and sometimes before, but sometimes after, and on the rare occasion whenever we feel like it" doesn't work for you?

Next Criterion Altman is very likely "California Split". I guess there's a chance it could be "Secret Honor", but I have a feeling that one is gonna be left on DVD because it's 16mm.

EDIT: I just watched the Modine closet video; it's always nice when people say "my friend Stanley Kubrick".

The 16mm portions of Bamboozled look terrific--I'm not sure that would be a disqualifier. I would have thought right now would have been the perfect time for an upgrade of Secret Honor.

Plausible wishlist as opposed to fantasy wishlist?

History Is Made At Night (1937, Borzage)
Midnight (1939, Leisen)
The Crowd (1928, Vidor)
Le Fils (The Son) (2002, Dardennes)
Regarde Les Hommes Tomber (See How They Fall) (1994, Audiard)

You seem too to have chosen a plausible list that even has some more-than-likely choices.

That's an interesting point, it's (hopefully) now or never as far as relevance goes. I didn't mean it was automatically disqualifying, but it always seems like there are extra costs and difficulties with getting 16mm in HD, and I don't know if it has the sales potential that anybody will put the effort in.

Could the 1996 year for Memories be an accidental copy and paste for an Irma Vep announcement?

Could Matthew Modine be there for Married to the Mob?
