I wonder if Criterion will finally release Cure (1997) since it got a 4K remaster in Japan and got a new Blu-ray a few months ago.

For me not that long (or from Criterion), but I've had two other packages this last week held up by USPS in Southaven, MS (near my Network Distribution Center in Memphis) for days. The local postal clerk wouldn't even take a complaint, saying it was "weather" even though the snow & ice have cleared out. While one package was finally delivered, I'm now out of sensors for my continuous glucose monitor because my Priority Mail shipment has been stuck in Southaven since last Monday; it was supposed to be delivered the very next day.

I'm very sorry to hear that. It's the same way at mine which is in Greensboro, NC and I'm 4 towns over from there, so I have no clue what the hold up is. They held several shout factory packages (which already take awhile to ship). My parents had to stop ordering prescription medication through the mail since it took so long, now I just go to the pharmacy for them.

Expiring from The Criterion Channel - The Night of the Hunter (1955)

I could spend paragraphs on Robert Mitchum's masterful one of a kind character and performance, several more paragraphs on the film's utterly unforgettable imagery, and yet another series of paragraphs waxing poetic about what a haunting masterpiece this is overall. But words really cannot do justice to the experience of watching this. (Note: The Richard Chamberlain remake is on YouTube, if you're so inclined. But please trust me and avoid it like the plague.)

DaBargainHunta's Decree: Even after my second viewing, I've still never seen anything else quite like it. An absolutely essential film. (Subtitles/Captions: Yes!)

Expiring from The Criterion Channel - Western (2015)

After watching and liking another Turner Ross and Bill Ross IV documentary - Tchoupitoulas - on the Channel a few months ago before it expired, I decided to check this one out before it also expired.

Like Tchoupitoulas, this is not what you want to watch if your heart is pumping and your mind is racing - but if you want to relax, chill, and be taken on a tour of a small Texas town, this is the movie for you. (Caution: There are a couple instances of of graphic and potentially disturbing imagery.)

DaBargainHunta's Decree: The kind of movie that makes me want to move to Texas, grow a bushy Hulk Hogan mustache, and wear a cowboy hat. (Subtitles/Captions: Yes!)

UPS has my order scheduled for Tuesday delivery.

I decided to try going for Fox titles, since lord only knows when Criterion's licenses will lapse. I was surprised that about half of the ones I needed were "unavailable" (on Blu-ray; no problems with DVD). Makes me wonder if there's been a run on those recently.

Anyway, I've got 10 of them (one isn't a Fox title) on the way:

And the non-Fox title:

This is very near the top of my Criterion upgrade wishlist, excluding Eclipse titles, which would be too numerous to list. Some others: Grand Illusion, Olivier's Shakespeare, Peeping Tom, The Orphic Trilogy, Eisenstein: The Sound Years, Written on the Wind, Spellbound, Man Bites Dog, Pepe le moko, Les dames du Bois de Boulogne, Quai des Orfèvres, Il posto, Diary of a Country Priest, Le Corbeau, Casque d'or, Andrzej Wajda: Three War Films, Crazed Fruit, Le notti bianche, Boudu Saved from Drowning, Rebel Samurai: Sixties Swordplay Classics, Shoot the Piano Player, The Spirit of the Beehive, The Fallen Idol, Monsters and Madmen...and I better stop now or I won't be able to. But suffice it to say that there's still plenty left they need to upgrade from my end, even when factoring in other labels like Kino upgrading some titles themselves like some Melville.

My shipment arrived yesterday:

I've also been including one Eclipse set with each order. Tried something different this time:

Lastly, I picked up all 5 postcard books: https://www.criterion.com/shop/produ...cards-volume-1
These are nice, though not as great as I'd hoped. The binding seems a bit fragile, so I'm afraid to open the pages too widely. Still, it's cool having individual (if small) copies of all the cover art from 2016-2020. Anyone else have thoughts on those?

You're not alone. I estimate about 60% of my Criterion titles are unwatched. And, like you, I've had some for many years but I figure if they're from Criterion, they'll be worth the wait

I've had a single DVD (not a Criterion disc, mind you — a copy of Jules Dassin's The Law purchased from eBay) marked as "in transit, arriving late"... since February 3. It was supposed to arrive on the 1st, there was that update two days later, and since then, nothing. I opened an inquiry and it was closed the next day — apparently that tracking update was good enough for the USPS — and started a missing mail search over a week ago, which is still open. I haven't contacted my local post office, but I can't imagine they'd be much help.

All this is to say that the USPS' service has been downright embarrassing for everyone for some time now, and this is coming from someone who's typically pretty forgiving and very patient when it comes to things like this.

For anyone who hasn't seen the AK100 set, it's massive in size and i doubt if and when criterion does a retrospective blu ray set for AK, it will be anything similar to the blu ray set.
I picture something something similar to the Bergman or Fellini

Absolutely; a lot of Americans will be happy when Louis DeJoy is gone from USPS, and that's NOT intended to be political.
[Show spoiler](Still waiting for President Biden to appoint new USPS governors to give its board a Dem majority so it can fire DeJoy. The real problem isn't that DeJoy is GOP or even a Trump supporter; it's that one of the key points of USPS' reorganization 50 years ago under Nixon was to *remove* it from politics altogether, a tenet abandoned with DeJoy's hiring & his seemingly intentional mismanagement of USPS. There's good reason why most Postmasters General in the 50 years before DeJoy weren't well-known; they're *supposed* to be faceless USPS bureaucrats by design.)
While the USPS network is turning into a black hole:
  • UPS last week delivered my new pair of eyeglasses by air from Shanghai (!) right on time. (The one USPS package that made it out of Southaven to me was of KN95 masks ordered with the eyeglasses, shipped from Pittsburgh.)
  • My new region-free UHDBD player, shipped Thursday by 220 from Chicago via FedEx Ground / Home Delivery, is out for delivery today -- just a day after FedEx originally promised, and still before a 220 phone rep told me he thought it would arrive. (The only delay apparently was in getting it from Memphis to the local FedEx Ground / Home Delivery hub.)
  • Even my new Spears & Munsil UHD calibration disc, shipped Thursday from an Amazon warehouse in Kansas City, KS, is still scheduled for delivery today even though neither Amazon nor USPS has seen it since it left KCK. (Probably delayed in arriving at my Amazon sortation center in Memphis; neither my local post office nor the other post office used for Sunday Amazon deliveries are likely to be bottlenecks.)

Yes, and I can understand during the holidays OK, but they are long over at this point. There's no reason my shipment should hit Chicago on 2/20, then no updates until yesterday stating it's still in Chicago!? Wtf USPS!

Yes, I totally understand where you're coming from too. Wouldn't it be funny if we bought a title that went OOP, and still hadn't watched it, but by the time we did Criterion would re-release it again on blu-ray? I wonder if that's happened to anyone here (I could think of two good examples such as Pierrot le Fou and Army of Shadows).

Speaking of which, it just arrived moments ago. USPS may not "deliver for you" anymore, but FedEx Ground still does.

It hasn't gone OOP yet but I'm desperately waiting for Criterion to upgrade The Element of Crime DVD to Blu-ray so I can watch the film. I have a feeling the DVD format is woefully inadequate for a film as visually striking as this.
