Fortunately, I have the Arrow blu ray of all of his early shorts, plus a couple of them turned up on later Criterion blu rays of his films.

Imagine a Criterion release featuring all of David Fincher's music videos.

I do have some UHD blurays though, most of the time if a normal bluray is included I buy the UHD package because it also have the premium packaging wich I have a soft spot for.

I see myself eventually upgrade to UHD, when my Panny bites the dust. But that can be a while, I remember the tv I had before this one (also a Panny plasma) and was still working perfectly after 12 years. So, knocks on wood.
My goal is to buy a 4k laser projector. I'm still waiting for the technology to improve more and more in that area, and for the prices to go down too. I'm really interested in short throw laser projectors such as the VAVA 4K, but that product still has some flaws so I've been reluctant to spend nearly $3,000 on that one. Here's a list of them: https://www.projectorcentral.com/bes...projectors.htm

To me, its almost analogous to buying an EV. The cars are still improving and the prices will continue to drop as demand goes down. I hope the same happens with laser projectors. Until then, I will be dreaming of my 200 inch screen showing a Criterion (4k disc? Maybe someday!).

I just love that TV and it works perfectly. So I just can't see replacing it right now.
I almost bought an OPPO but instead I have an OWC Mercury Pro M-Disc LG player. https://www.owcdigital.com/products/mercury-pro-optical

It's pretty solid, but I'm used to hooking it up to my computer rather than my TV. A lot of people use their computers as their TVs these days (to stream or watch movies/shows) but I'm still old school where a TV is a TV and a computer is a computer!

I just can't see myself doing that. Watching a movie on a laptop or computer monitor, as opposed to relaxing in theater sets and watching a large HDTV 6' feet away? There's no comparison in my mind. But to each their own.

Yep, I will most likely NEVER watch movies on my computer (unless someone steals my 2,000 lb HDTV from 14 years ago).

And in the wise words of our brother David Lynch:

You know that Xbox runs it's movie playback off an effing app? Hint, get the other console.

What do you mean by this? it's just the official Blu-Ray player app that's on the Xbox store and takes 2 seconds to install on your Xbox. Is that a bad thing somehow?

I'm enjoying my 12 year old Panny plasma too. But I'm also keeping an ear out for where technology may go next. One thing that has intrigued me is the potential of VR headsets to replicate the big screen experience in a manner that promises to obviate the practical limitations of the home screen you can afford to install. Imagine a screen that fills your eyes without filling your room.

Of course there are still kinks to be worked out. As of now most people are using it for stuff on their hard drives, and issues with HDCP, quality of decoding, how multi-channel sound will be presented are not yet clear. But it may prove to be a great way of watching one's favorite films alone.

Maybe it’s just me, but the thought of a view filling screen that moves with my head fills me with horror!

That's not necessarily how VR works. A virtual cinema hall could be designed to show a screen in an auditorium and you could possibly even look around (though don't be surprised if you find yourself alone or your fellow watchers seem curiously stilted ).

But yes, it will take you out of your real surroundings and some people will always be uncomfortable with that.

Lol every program is an "app" whether it's called an app or not

Do you think ps5 movie playback runs off of pixie dust instead of an executable?

PS5 has been shown to be a superior UHD player compared to the Xbox Series X. Just keep in mind that neither console supports Dolby Vision for 4K discs, so if you want to get the most out of your films you're best off getting a standalone player.

Jeez, Prime is expensive in the US. About twice what it costs here.

Luckily, because it's US Prime and thus useless to me 99% of the time, I have a free trial. Jumping on that deal. $15 on top of that to ship it here, bargain.

True enough. On the other hand, they are able to have La Dolce Vita in that box set even while the standalone release is now OOP.

I asked for it for my birthday, so hopefully I don't have to pay a cent haha.
But knowing my luck, I'll have to wait for the sale (which technically begins on my birthday. I think.)
