I'm curious how many of these Criterion has the rights to? Typhoon Club for sure, but not sure of any of the rest.
Was it confirmed that they have Typhoon Club? I didn't see Janus Films attributed to any of the films at Japan Society's website, and I couldn't find anything that connected Criterion to the film

edit: nm, I see your comments in the Japanese thread about where it was confirmed.

What are the chances we get Field's films In the Bedroom and/or Little Children on the label? Or Mungiu's RMN?

You know the only thing about Todd Field joining the collection is he doesn't like special features on his releases, which apparently has continued with the Universal 4K of Tar, so I feel like that would be a potential problem there.

I just watched The Long Good Friday on the Criterion Channel the other night and it bore their logo at the start. Has there been any word regarding a physical release? It's been OOP for sometime now.

Is there a way to buy their empty 2-Disc and 3-Disc cases? I'd like to add some 4K discs for completeness.

There are some releases that are barren of features on the disc like Letter Never Sent. And Three Outlaw Samurai (if you exclude the trailer).

I think Field would be okay with his releases having the essay booklets though.

Excited for more Fassbinder in the collection, plus the Tarr.

Still waiting for Jean Eustache.

Hoping but skeptical that we get the announcements Friday on the 14th, rather than Monday or Tuesday next week. Hoping for at least a big release or two for July.

Of course, "After Hours" would be great.

I had just recently gotten in the Criterion BD of "Chilly Scenes of Winter". I'd never seen it before, that I can recall, and thought it was very good. I have to say I prefer the second, more ambiguous ending.

The site review for this has the critic saying that John Heard's character is everything a woman could ever want.... Hmmmmm..... Don't think I've ever heard this described quite that way. It certainly makes him human and relatable instead of some creepy monster, which I liked that it did that, but I don't see him as every woman's dream guy, either. He's pretty.... 'troubled', and we see his family background and all, I'm pretty sure seeing him as quite emotionally unhealthy was intended.

Heard and Hurt were terrific, as was the whole cast. I found Griffin Dunne's cameo hilarious, LOL. (He and Amy Robinson produced this).

I love that era (70s), particularly in film. Just enjoyed it all around.

Is this your first experience with that specific reviewer and their reviews?

No. Just had to mention it because that particularly stuck out to me, LOL.

That reviewer accuses Mary Beth Hurt's character of 'inexplicable mood swings', and says that John Heard's character is the type that most women spend their whole lives looking for....

That was particularly strange, LOL.

Also says the performances in this are mostly under-par, and I also disagreed with that...

Anyway, found that awfully weird, LOL.

I like the film itself, though. Though I don't view it as a 'rom-com', really. I see it as a portrait of a pretty unhealthy relationship, and a more unhealthy individual. Again, though, I like that he is humanized rather than villainous.

Griffin Dunne and Amy Robinson produced this when they were still quite young. Griffin has a hilarious cameo.

Anyway, a real discovery that got by me all these years.

Mark Metcalf Also was a producer who, depending on your age, is Neidermeyer from Animal House, a similar character from the Twisted Sister music video for “We’re Not Gonna Take it Anymore”, or The Master from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Or if you’re me, all of the above. He appeared in the movie as Mary Beth Hurt’s boyfriend.

I feel like it could fall in the “anti rom-com” it feels like a rom-com but with more drama.

Strand Releasing is touring a 4K restoration of The Doom Generation. I wonder if we’ll get a box set for he trilogy from Criterion or if Strand wants to release it themselves.

You can order directly from them. They offer a 5 pack of single disc holders for $12. I inquired before about 2 disc cases and they said they could do a mixed order of 1 and 2 disc cases for the same price. They might be able to do the same with 2 and 3 disc cases. That inquiry was pre-pandemic so I don’t know if anything changed since. It also used to be that single case orders were about $5 apiece.

RMN feels possible.

In the Bedroom & Little Children are two DVDs I would *love* to finally get to upgrade.

Be sure to read the 'Final Thoughts' at the end of the review.
