Well it looks like we might get more of these titles from this post on Blu-Ray and 4K UHD that they haven't done yet. I'm betting on How to Get Ahead in Advertising, and probably Stray Dog too along with Seven Samurai 4K UHD too.

Isn't it stuck in a salt mine or something like that?
Or is that some other movie?

I think some studios used (still use?) converted mines to storage negatives, so that doesn’t sound too strange. Maybe there was a cave in or something like that.

They did a 4K for Inland Empire, they can do a 4K from whatever survives of Day.

Cool news! It mentions a 4K black and white restoration so I wonder if there will be a 4K restoration of the original color version. Weird wording if this restoration wasn’t actually in black and white as the post implies.

The restoration is for a B&W version only as far as I know. Julian Schnabel supervised it a few years back, and it screened at MoMA in 2021.

https://variety.com/2021/film/news/j...al-1235000389/

There's going to be a screening of it tomorrow night at rh Sag Harbor Cinema in NY, with Schnabel there to do a Q&A. That page mentions this is ahead of the Janus Films screening which will start on September 13th

https://sagharborcinema.org/films/basquiat/

Quote:

An upcoming Janus release (September 13th), the film has been newly restored in black & white, from a 4k scan from the original camera negative, under Schnabel’s supervision.

Speaking of Cape Fear it looks like Germany is getting a double feature of both films on Blu-Ray this year being released by Universal Studios hmmmmmm interesting. So it seems like Criterion if they do have both films would probably give these titles a double feature Blu-Ray and 4K UHD just like with the Val Lewton double feature they’re releasing in October. Man this is such an amazing year for physical media so many things that even I thought would almost never get Blu-Rays and heck 4K UHDs this year are getting them.

Happiness
The Long Good Friday
Val Lewton Double Feature
Demon Pond
Noroi The Curse
Electric Dragon 80000 V
Mother
Garbo Talks
Fluke
Death To Smoochy
Black Belt Jones
And so so many more
