As long as there are options other than streaming, I'll prioritize them.
The only issue I have is when people act like physical media and digital/cloud-based methods of media distribution shouldn't be allowed to peacefully coexist. It doesn't need to be a zero-sum game.

As for 4K streams surpassing physical blu-rays, is this usually the case, assuming the blu-ray is sourced from the same 4K master? How do the 4K SDR versions of The Seventh Seal and Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion on iTunes compare to the 4K-sourced blu rays from Criterion for example? Or the 4K Mubi stream of Au Hasard Balthazar that's available in some countries?

Tremendous news, I'm all in. There's only a DVD edition at the moment. Makes for a great double feature with Bobby Roth's Heartbreakers (1984) with Peter Coyote.

But I’ve been following Criterion for nearly 15 years. It all ebbs and flows.
Rudolph says in the interview that Criterion wanted Remember My Name, but that it’s all tied up in legal involving the music and he can’t get an answer from anyone involved what it is.

The Victors was released on DVD in the UK. I have a copy. I'd really like to see a restored blu-ray edition, though.

Yup. Indicator has actually talked about how they have contractual release dates for their Sony licenses and that is why they are so focused on them.

Thanks for the ♦nugget♦ of info. I'd no idea THE VICTORS had been issued on DVD in the UK.

He didn't go into all that in the interview I saw but I believe it and that sucks. The interview I saw was mostly focused on the new Breakfast of Champions restoration, limited theatrical release and upcoming Shout Factory blu. Where did you see this interview? Now I'm very curious.

Oh sure, here’s the interview I saw:

https://www.rogerebert.com/interview...ions-interview

(Here’s the portion that goes into it:

:You can get a Blu-ray of "Roadie," but you can't find "Remember My Name," although Turner Classic Movies has shown it. Criterion picked up "Choose Me"—40 years later, but I'll take it. That is my first film with them, and they do really good work. We have retimed that, and man is that good. They told me they wanted "Remember My Name" but that there is some kind of legal thing involving the music. Now, everyone involved with the music is dead, and the music wasn't pop music—it was Alberta Hunter and her blues tunes. It is probably just some lawyer who got lazy and didn't do something, but that has stopped it from anybody who has tried to pursue it. Nobody will tell me what the issue is—they just say it is a legal thing.” )

My version would have allowed you to open up the truck and see a replica Criterion Closet inside

Mifune's replica was a better deal. Criterion missed a golden opportunity to make this highly collectible. Instead it's just mildly collectible. If they had an actual interior designed with walls of blu-ray/dvd cases inside the truck, it would have been super damn cool.

Don't laugh, but when I received the e-mail from Criterion and took a peek, I thought The Criterion Closet Candycar meant it opened with a small sample of movie candy inside.

Then I read the fine print.

They went with a little wooden toy so you couldn't sue them.

My Criterion Closet picks would be:

In a Lonely Place
Le Samurai
Blood Simple
Days of Heaven
The Devils Backbone
Rebecca
Ivan’s Childhood
The Lodger
Mirror
Moonrise Kingdom
Written on the Wind
Pan’s Labyrinth.

3 Films I wish Criterion would do so I could add them to my pics:
Revenant
DarkCity 1998
AND FREAKING BLADERUNNER… Come on you guys!, you put it out on Laserdisc… what gives??? Who cares that multiple editions have been released elsewhere… Bladerunner fits your requirements and this film feels like it belongs on my Criterion shelf mixed in amongst the collection. Maybe a UHD Workprint addition and then just pitch in the final cut as an extra?

What determines whether one of CC's discs has the Janus logo beforehand and which don't?
