Saw All We Imagine As Light at the cinema last night, and it was on the whole a solidly done feel-good movie, with nicely etched characterizations and lovely performances from the cast.

It seems every store "near" me is sold out of both the 4K and the blu-ray, according to their website… nine stores cleaned out? Impressive.

Ordered Paper Moon from Amazon but I might never get it. It's "delayed in transit" for almost a week now and they keep sending me emails asking if I'd like to cancel and get a refund. I suspect they never actually shipped it and just want to get rid of the order, problem is the sale is over so I'd be paying full price if I reorder.

It's still 50% off right now. B&N's sale ends on 12/2.

Thanks. I forgot the sale started a little later this month. The arrival of December also threw me off a bit. Always thought this sale was strictly just throughout November but I'm probably misremembering that too. Gonna try to haggle with Amazon via chat and see if my order is actually "on the way". Want to avoid having 2 copies. Such is the world of collecting

Worst case, you could return one. Their return process is so ridiculously easy now if you have a Whole Foods nearby. You don't even need any packaging or anything, just bring the movie and the code to scan, and within seconds you get an email confirming the return.

I just saw it today and loved it. Lots of turns I didn't see coming and it got a little dusty in the theater for me at the end. (Full confession: I'm vulnerable to the main thrust of the film). And it's a Janus distribution, so it might well end up on Criterion.

It also reminded me just a little of Bird, Andrea Arnold's new film. A handful of Mubi titles have ended up with Criterion, so fingers crossed there.

With the amount of time that Peter Becker spent praising it to the high heavens at NYFF, I have a strong feeling that it is indeed Criterion-bound. He seemed really proud of the film.

That fact that it was picked up for distribution by Janus, would mean it’s all but guaranteed to get a Criterion/Janus Contemporaries release.

Interesting looks like Target might be getting back into selling physical media in their own stores again this is honestly pretty good news. As I thought they would stick to just selling physical media online, but looks like that's not the case anymore. Hmmmmmm

Watching The Great Beauty on TCM last night I did a lookup of information regarding it and discovered there was a longer version shown in 2015. Is there anywhere to see it with English subtitles? I saw a couple of BDs but with non-English subs. Any opinions from those who have seen the extended cut?

Not that it really narrows it down, but definitely one of these movies.

https://www.moma.org/calendar/film/5731

You can eliminate Executioners, The Heroic Trio, and Throw Down, as they are owned by Janus Films and have been released on home video already.

These seem unlikely:

Drug War - Well Go USA
Election - Kino
Election 2 - Kino
Exiled - Magnolia
Life Without Principle - Shout
Mad Detective - IFC
Triangle - Magnolia

So I'd probably guess one or more of these:

Blind Detective
Breaking News
Expect the Unexpected
Justice, My Foot
Lifeline
Loving You
The Mission
My Left Eye Sees Ghosts
Needing You
Office
PTU
Running Out of Time
Sparrow
Vengeance

Couple of things, Running Out of Time is with Arrow, Lifeline was released by VS this year, Justice My Foot by Shout, so those can be removed at least.

Exiled is no longer with Magnolia so that one is possible. Still, so many options for his films. I would love for Kino to lose the rights to the Election films, but rumor is that might have already as well.

Bayview Entertainment also did a BD release of Office last year, though I don't know if it's still in print, or if they still have rights.

I completely erased that release from my brain. There should be a law against putting a Johnnie To film on BD-R.

THE MISSION would be awesome. My DVD bronzed a while ago (it was a shoddy non-anamorphic transfer anyway) but had some nice interviews on it.

Also ... FULLTIME KILLER please.
