I know this isn't Criterion related, but still surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet.

When you mention Indian cinema, for most people it's all about those silly musical. While I do enjoy watching some of those, Indian cinema as so much more to offer and The Music Room is one of those films. Such a wonderful movie, the cinematography is beautiful and the music soothing to the mind. The story is a hard one, about a man who is so take by his love of music that he neglect the real life and people around him.

Maybe just a warning for those expecting perfect pictures, it look's beautiful and you can see that they made a good restoration. That being said, expect to see lot's of scratchs and defects, in short if you expect perfect PQ this may not be the release for you
I love this film from one of the best known directors of classic Indian cinema, Satyajit Ray, of whom I knew little about until I'd heard of The Music Room. It turns out that he has a pretty lengthy filmography, yet not much is available on blu. I noticed that Eureka has a number of his films on DVD on the Masters of Cinema Series.

In any case, he's a director whose work I want to better familiarize myself with in the near future.

The whole time I had this eerie feeling like something bad was gonna happen. I think this is probably the only film where I was literally fearful the whole way through. Naomi Watts was incredible. It was just an amazing experience and had me at the edge of my seat from beginning to end. And I still don't really know what the hell was going on in the last 40 min!

Note: I know this isn't Criterion related but it is a film that Criterion could (please?) release.

Edit: I loved the film so much I had to change my avatar.
Definitely one of myvery favorites too. Please consider importing the German region free David Lynch set. It has Lost Highway and Inland Empire on top of Mulholland Drive. Highly Reccomended! http://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B004LV1...4471592&sr=8-2

I haven't heard anything definitive yet, but I continue to strongly suspect there will be an upgrade of one (maybe even two) of Criterion's Kurosawa films before the end of this year. He's one of the studio's most popular directors and none of his films has been released so far this year by Criterion.

I personally hope for Ikiru, Stray Dog or Rashomon but any Kurosawa title would be welcome (I bought the existing blus of High and Low and Kagemusha during the last B&N 50% off sale, adding them to my collection, which includes Criterion's Seven Samurai and Yojimbo | Sanjuro.)

Actually, I preordered that blu version The Trial not too long ago. As a fan of Orson Welles, I'm looking forward to seeing it (for the first time).

I just recently imported the UK Studio Canal Collection of Mulholland Drive—the first David Lynch film I saw and the one that remains my favorite from his career. I'd recommend that version. It comes with a several on-disc extras, a booklet and classy, hardcover packaging.

I'm really tempted to pick this up. Is this the only region free release of Mulholland Dr? I haven't seen the other two films. I might just get it anyway. It's worth it for Mulholland Dr alone but just wondering if there's a stand alone release.

Mulholland Drive in Criterion would be AMAZING

Or even better - a collection consisting of Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, Eraserhead, Elephant Man, and Inland Empire - with a cool collage cover.

I know this has probably been answered already, so I apologize, but the Criterion Facebook page has hit more than 100,000 likes, so where's the sale?

Nobody other than non-Criterion employees mentioned a sale. 100,000 "likes", good for them I guess. They could do a sale tomorrow for no reason, or never do one again. We'll see, but they never said anything about doing something if they reach 100,000 "likes".

Trying to stay ahead of "the game" when it comes to Criterion's patterns and they make each and every person pay for it. Remember when they posted clues for future films on Facebook? Yeah, will that is another "give me" that they took away.

The other release is region B, so yeah, its worth it...
FYI: Blue Velvet is out stateside...

Back to the Question...Well... It's a trilogy of sorts, an identity trilogy. Lost Highway is a bit of a cult favorite, and I personally love Inland Empire (difficult but worth it). I say check out Lost Highway ASAP and then make up your mind. Consider Inland Empire a bonus because you'll need quite a bit of time and a rewatch to evaluate how you feel about it...talk about a divisive film!

I make very few "Day One" purchases, but I'd definitely make an exception for Rashomon. A movie I was agog while watching for the first time, and one that has gotten better upon subsequent viewings.
