I'll take your word on that P@t, because I wasn't buying my Criterion Blu's online at that point...just retail, and mainly from HMV, Best Buy, or Future Shop. I definitely remember seeing Bottle Rocket on shelves first, followed by the others staggered a week or so apart.

Of course, that doesn't mean they weren't available; it's just the way they got distributed via retail north of the 49th.

Yeah, release all same day but in store, probably not available or found. Frankly I gave up on Criterion releases in stores a long long time ago. I always go online for them. it does seem however that they are seen more in stores, I have notice them in Future Shop up here in recen years, that was never the case before. There is no doubt that the collection is coming out of the obscure known only to some few crazy movie nuts to gain more acceptance in the general public.

That's a fantastic deal!! It's a great set and frankly, The Steel Helmet is worth it alone.

I know everyone knows that Criterion most likely has an Eraserhead release up their sleeve, but I noticed that they have it on iTunes to rent and buy (in HD or SD). I'm mainly sharing this for the cover art, which I assume will be the cover art for the Blu/DVD.

[Show spoiler]

Edit: I found a better picture of the possible cover art.

I'm a huge Science Fiction fan, any interesting titles released by Criterion that anyone can recommend? The only releases that call out to my attention are probably the original Godzilla film and A Night to Remember.

Seven Samurai is always one that everyone loves. IMO it's a long haul to watch, but it's good.

You can't go wrong with any of those and Sweet Smell of Success would probably be very much to your liking as well.

World on a Wire. It's very much toward the hard sci-fi end of the spectrum and has some Blade Runnerish noir overtones. I bought it blind based almost solely on the strength of recommendations here so I wasn't really sure what to expect and the five hours (it was originally made for German television) just flew by. I didn't watcht the whole thing in one sitting but but it reminded me a lot of Carlos...there were absolutely no periods of lagging interest or viewer fatigue.

And I gotta ask...A Night to Remember???

Definitely +1 for both Sweet Smell of Success and World on a Wire.

If you don't watch the deals section... B&N B2G1 starts tomorrow and will prolly overlap with the current 40% prices for a little bit. Some titles are working now.

I got Kagemusha, Design for Living and Last Days of Disco for $16.95 each.

Well, I'm actually interested in the actual Titanic event, and A Night to Remember is a film I enjoyed a lot. It's arguably the most "historically accurate" of all the major motion pictures pertaining to the disaster. Interestingly enough, there's even a 1943 Nazi Propaganda film to boot (also called Titanic). I always thought a company like Criterion should do a release of such a obscure title.

Oh yeah, I'm thinking of purchasing High and Low. For some reason, Akira Kurosawa's non-Samurai/medieval Japan titles call my attention more. I hope they come out with Ikiru, eventually.

Pale Flower.

You couldn't pick 4 more different films from each other. So really it is about which one is most interesting to you.
