Have you seen Hour Of The Wolf? Its a Bergman film that's comparable to The Magician. Actually it's almost a straight up horror film.

That sucks, I have Prime and received Badlands yesterday.

BTW, I can't remember, but was it you who was mentioning the Technicolor pulsing on one of the older Criterions? I just watch This Happy Breed last night (from the Lean/Coward box) and it has the same pulsing colors (along with Black Narcissus and several others).

Yeah, we were talking about the coloring in a few films.

Also, I don't know what's up with Amazon lately but I USUALLY get several prime orders the day before release. However, that hasn't happened in months.

Not sure what's going on, but I don't like it

Dare I say it's a fun Bergman film?

I'll admit my Bergman experience is so far limited to his "major" films, such as The Seventh Seal, Persona, Wild Strawberries, etc. I feel lucky to have directors like Bergman, Kurosawa and Fassbinder with rather large filmographies I havent seen much of. It was depressing when I realized there was (probably) no more Hitchcock movies I hadn't seen yet, unless The Mountain Eagle miraculously reappears.

Kinda like the Boss' album, the Starkweather events were just an inspiration for the film.
I like Springsteen but the song for Badlands is Nat King Cole's A Blossom Fell. Love that scene.

Hour of The Wolf is a great Bergman film. In my opinion, it is equivalent to Persona in greatness. It is very surreal and poetic, but everyone tends to forget about this film.

Cries and Whispers has some of the best cinematography in film history. Any fan of the master Sven Nykvist should check it out. This film would look gorgeous in HD.

Let's not forget The Virgin Spring. How great that would look in HD.

All great choices. Cries and Whispers seriously disturbed me when I first saw it years back. I didn't think the shocks were gratuitous in any manner, too.

Actually, what is the preferred opinion on I Only Want You to Love Me? The DVD or Blu-Ray? I am region-free, so whichever works for me.

He wanted something his wife would like. Smiles of a Summer Night would be another recommendation.

Speaking of Badlands and the events that inspired it, does anyone remember a TV movie called Murder in the Heartland? Starred Tim Roth as Charles Starkweather. Quite good, as I recall.

Good call!

Funny how I stumbled onto The Virgin Spring years ago. I watched the 1972 Wes Craven film, The Last House on the Left, and, while I did not quite warm up to that rather mean-spirited flick, I was intrigued when I found out that it was essentially a remake of the Bergman film.
