Am I missing something here? Amazon has new copies of DAZED AND CONFUSED on Criterion in the 20-30 dollar range. What's this business about copies going for 100-200 dollars?

People were talking about Criterion's edition of The Third Man, which has been out of print for a while and commands some pretty high prices.

I'm with you. I would travel great distances to get it at a good price.

I live in Atlanta, so I would probably drive up to North Carolina for a weekend to go hiking in the mountains, and conveniently happen to swing by your Barnes & Noble location if that were the case.

Incidentally, the Ain't It Cool site has some links to Blue is the Warmest Color and the other big movies from the festival. The short clips look great.

Lived here almost all of my life and the NC mountains are still the go-to vacationing spot for the family.

I try not to get worked up over Cannes, because I won't be able to see most of those films until next year at the very earliest, and probably on home video as our theaters RARELY get foreign films (we'll get Spanish films and the occasional Oscar nominated best foreign language film).

I'm sure the Coen and Payne films will get a fairly wide release this winter, though.

I'm assuming this Palm d'Or winner will be better than last year's. Not that hard of an accomplishment .

I was up in the Raleigh-Durham area in April for a race at the Umstead park. That's a beautiful area.

One of my favorite bands from a few years back, The Rosebuds, are from Raleigh.

The Coen Brothers preview did not quicken my pulse that much, although Carey Mulligan's role is intriguing.

I'm predicting that Blue is the Warmest Color will make a bigger splash than most foreign films do around these parts. It probably won't make the same dent that Amélie or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon made, but it will get some notice.

It's hard for me not to get excited. There's always so many great films coming out of the festival. One of the year's In Competition films is already readily available, which is a great bonus. I think we'll see Only God Forgives, Nebraska, Inside Llewyn Davis, and Only Lovers Left Alive in some sort of general release before the year's end, and a few others in more limited and possibly VOD releases.

Don't get me wrong, each year the lineup has me speechless, I just try to save all my enthusiasm for the fall and winter, when a fraction of those are released in theaters/VOD.

There's a good chance the Jarmusch film may get a "big limited" release, so that is definitely a great development

Can someone clear something up for me please. Did CC release Stand By Me on BD or not? Every search thread I see brings it up but I can't find nothing other than the DVD being available anywhere...

Sent from my phone when I probably should be working...

In my opinion, A Separation is the best film of the past five years. I cannot wait to see this film! Have you seen it Pro-B?

No Criterion did not release this film on BluRay, Sony did. Here's a link to the release:

Great movie by the way

Umberto D. or Naked Lunch?

I don't know which of these two extremely similar films I should get as my next Criterion. I'm leaning towards Umberto D.

I have not yet But I am planning on picking up the French release.

On a side note, I am very much looking forward to The Great Beauty. I am a very big admirer of Sorrentino's work, and my friends that went to Cannes are telling me that despite the fact that it did not win any big awards it was one of the best films to be screened this year. Sorrentino and Servillo reunited - I know it will be special!

I cannot wait for a Blu-ray release to be announced
