A funny conversation while I was browsing around at Movie Stop this evening (no purchases this time). Insidiously Criterion-related...
I picked up a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird, which I fully intend to upgrade from DVD soon, but am waiting for a price drop. This big guy who looked sort of like the Twinkie-eating cop in Die Hard walked over... Big guy: "That's a great movie!" Me: "It sure is!" Big guy: "I remember reading that and seeing the movie in ninth grade English. I bet you saw it back then as well." Me: "Actually, I did! We read the book, and my English teacher showed us the movie over two class periods." Big guy: "I still love that movie. I think about it all the time." Me: "Yeah, me too." Big guy: "You know what my favorite scene in that movie is? I love it when the twelve guys are all sitting at the table, and they all vote guilty except for that one guy who raises his hand and votes not guilty just to be the one guy who has a different argument to make the others think." Me: "Uh... Yeah! I really love that scene as well." Big Guy: "I always do that at meetings because of that movie. When everybody else votes one way and agrees on something, I raise my hand to be the one guy who has a different argument." Me: "That's awesome. Such a great movie. Have a good day!" Big Guy: "Yeah, you too!" |

That really is sad what happened to her. The same sort of thing happened with the beautiful Inger Stevens, who was born the same year as Janet Munro. Inger Stevens starred in The Twilight Zone episode, "The Hitch-Hiker", which is, in my opinion, the best half hour in the history of television. She also starred in several films with the likes of Clint Eastwood, Walter Matthau, Robert Mitchum, and Dean Martin before her untimely death in 1970.

Pretty new to the criterion related forums here. Y'all helped me buy some great titles. I hope for Thursday's announcement to have scanners and eraserhead.
Watched Afew titles my friend bought first: Kid with a Bike- I liked it a lot very good acting and style. Wild Strawberrys- took awhile to sink in after watching but in retrospect pretty brilliant film. I thought about it the whole next day. Can't wait to watch more Bergman flicks! I own F&A and 7th seal. Salo- well finally can say I saw it. I was even yelling at the screen saying fight back, do something to these maniacs. But that was the point the dispare and loss of all hope... Antichrist- that last 30 mins wow. And I thought Audition was crazy lol... Not as bad as most critics panned it. With an open mind it's an interesting artsy horror flick. Next up tonight The Rules of the Game. Thanks CC fans and community, JM. |

![]() Inger was another sad story, for sure. I guess to keep this Criterion-related I do wish they could p/u The Day the Earth Caught Fire. It also has Michael Caine in it in a tiny role. Don't Blink! ![]() You folks keep mentioning Nov.'12 as a benchmark for Criterion releases-what were they? Also, does anyone here or is there a place online that lists month-by-month what Criterion released? Thanks! ![]() |

I bought The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series on Blu-ray a few months back, and am astounded at the quality of the set. I made it all the way to midway through Season Three before taking a break to enjoy the Criterions and such during the recent sale. After I finish watching the movies from my Hitchcock set this week, I'll be returning to The Twilight Zone set to resume going through the other seasons. Steering this boat back into Criterion waters, I will be buying the new Criterion title, Seconds, as soon as there is another Barnes & Noble coupon emailed to me. I've read repeated comparisons of that movie to The Twilight Zone episodes. |

(1) Fassbinder's BRD Trilogy (The Marriage of Maria Braun, Veronika Voss, and Lola) -- not likely, as I believe they lost the rights to these films (the DVd set is OOP, at any rate) (2) Jean Renoir's Stage & Spectacle (The Golden Coach, French Cancan, and Elena and Her Men) (3) Shohei Imamura's Pigs, Pimps, and Prositutes (Pigs and Battleships, The Insect Woman, and Intentions of Murder). (4) The Carl Theodor Dreyer set (Day of Wrath, Ordet and Gertrud, plus the Carl Th. Dreyer, My Métier documentary). Of course, speaking of Dreyer, I'd be ecstatic if they did The Passion of Joan of Arc on Blu. And for Imamura, Black Rain (which Image/Fox Lorber did on LD & DVD). |

As for your other question: (1) On the bar under the site logo, click "Movies" (third one from the left) (2) Go down the left-hand bar until you get to the section "By studio" that's almost at the bottom. Click "Criterion" (second one listed). (3) At the top of the resulting list, toward the right, there's a "sort by" drop-down menu. Click "sort by release date". That will give you a list of the Criterion releases in the site database from newest to oldest. Don't use the "sort by release date (desc)". That sorts them from oldest to newest, which wouldn't be a problem except that "oldest" are various unannounced titles and/or placeholder entries that you'll have to wade through to get to the actual releases (which start toward the bottom of the second page). |

So someone asked this earlier, what would you like to see get a Criterion release... I'm thinking with the news of Time Bandits being released, that would have been a great title for Criterion to do their thing with! Anyone else??
