Yeah, I loved that final scene. It's a very simple, yet beautifulyl shot, and it just leaves you to think "what happens now?"

Hey folks, its been a while since I posted here (been traveling a lot lately) but I'm wondering what are your top 5 most re-watchable Criterions in your opinion?

You may include films in your collection if you wish but list 5 that you can watch the most over and over again.

I will start with my top 5 most re-watchable Criterions:

1. Naked (1993)
2. The Darjeeling Limited (2007)
3. The Ice Storm (1997)
4. Slacker (1991)
5. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

Notice something? These are all films that have come out in the last 25 years. Yes, I'm a sucker for newer films when it comes to re-watchability.

Just using ones from my own collection, and in no order:

Contempt
The Double Life of Veronique
The Marriage of Maria Braun
Band of Outsiders
La Dolce Vita

Though, if you ask me in six months, I have a feeling that "Frances Ha" will have worked it's way into that list somehow. I adore that movie.

I've watched these more often than anything else.

1. Le Samourai
2. Army of Shadows
3. The Third Man
4. The Night of the Hunter
5. The 39 Steps

Le Cercle Rouge probably belongs in the Top Five alongside the above, but I couldn't quite crowd the list with three Melville films.

Yup, would stop at Tower on Sunset then go down the road to Virgin and maybe see a film over there too, though probably spent the most time at the Encino(?) store. Haven't been to L.A. since moved away in '96.

Hmmm, most frequently watched...

Rosemary's Baby (this was an easy one, I've been watching it since I was like seven and that was a while ago)
12 Angry Men
Anatomy of a Murder
The Third Man
Sweet Smell of Success

I'm kind of curious to see if Thief works its way into this rotation. Frances Ha and The Ice Storm might have a decent shot too which is a little odd because they're not exactly in my 'comfort food' zone.

i watched fritz langs "ministry of fear" yesterday. good movie but i like his "german" stuff like mabuse much more. this was my second of his english speaking movies "scarlet street" was pretty good as well.

how to you organize your criterion collection on your shelf? im thinking about putting all the movies from one director to each other. and orginzing the whole think like this

"japanese movies"
Kurosawa movies -> ozu movies -> etc

"swedish movies"
bergman

the spine numbers to acutally not help that much and are more or less useless...

I have my Criterions shelved by spine numbers, the Blu-rays and DVDs shelved separately.

The spine numbers separate the men from the boys.

Your system described here, however, is how I shelve my non-Criterion foreign films.

Seven Samurai
The Red Shoes
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion
Blow Out
The Night of the Hunter

I thought about sneaking Zatoichi in there. I have only watched the first ten so far though. However, I have enjoyed each one very much. So, I guess Zatoichi is #6 currently.

for me one of the most rewatchable classic movies is

Night of the Hunter , i watched that movies 2 times in 1 week and all of the bonus features the week after. and i wouldnt mind rewatching it again soon...

in the mood for love is another of these highly rewatchable movies

but i wouldnt rewatch movies like sado , antichrist or even terrence malick movies that often...

I have three sections, all ordered by spin number.

Sections are:

DVDS
Blurays
Bluray Digipaks

Dvds are fine next to digipaks as they are same height, but Blus are taller than the standard case so looks tidier this way

my whole collection is split like this

TV Shows a own shelf -> random ordered
Asian movies a whole shelf -> alphabetical order (0 ABC...)
( + asian DVDs at the botom of the shelf)
Everything else from the EU/UK/USA -> (0 ABC...)

Criterion / MoC / Hitchcock movies a whole shelf
(+ eclipse DVD sets at the botom)

the criterion / MoC stuff is the only stuff i will probably reorganize by country -> director.
