It will be $5 on their site afterwards, more than likely.

About to order the following from B&N online:

Insomnia
Riot In Cell Block 11
George Washington
Seconds

Does anyone have an online coupon code to make this an even sweeter deal??

Also, when is the sale over?

The only problem is that Criterion would also need to include a re-sized booklet, as the booklets in the dual format digipacks are larger than the standard plastic cases. This is different than their prior replacement cases offered, as those booklets were already standard plastic case size. Would they include the re-sized booklet as well at the $5 price?

Hmm...you're right.

Maybe they'll just offer a replacement program? I don't really know.

Well I am officially done with the Criterion sale. I've purchased:

-The Magician
-12 Angry Men
-The Darjeeling Limited
-The Royal Tenenbaums
-America Lost and Found: The BBS Story
-Scanners
-Persona
-On the Waterfront

I have to save my cash for the one in November.

How many times did the rest of you rewind the exploding head scene in Scanners?

I watched it four or five times before moving on with the movie today.

I'm grateful that Criterion added Scanners to their queue. The Criterion Collection is sort of like an understanding soccer mom who feeds healthy food to her children on most days, but occasionally takes them to McDonald's for greasy hamburgers. I have a soft spot for the "drive in" Criterion titles, namely Scanners, Videodrome, Equinox, Repo Man, and The Blob. After revisiting several other such "drive in" films from Scream Factory and such lately, I'm glad that I saved Scanners for last. I had forgotten how oddly charming this movie is when it comes to that great era of 1980s sci-fi/horror.

I'll always associate Michael Ironside with his character, Ham Tyler, on the television series, V, back in the mid-1980s. Likewise, I'll always associate the late great Patrick McGoohan with his role as the warden in Don Siegel's Escape from Alcatraz. Jennifer O'Neill is quite amazing.

I'm enjoying the supplementary interviews now, but will turn off the computer again to watch Stereo, which comes as an extra feature with this disc.

This brings us to the subject of favorite special features on Criterion discs. I love it when I get two movies for the price of one. The Killing/Killer's Kiss. Picnic at Hanging Rock/Homesdale. Blow Out/Murder à la Mod. The Lady Vanishes/Crook's Tour. Stagecoach/Bucking Broadway. ...and so on.

I couldn't--I didn't have the heart: It just reminded me how much I missed our PBS station showing those old Canadian CBC reruns of Seeing Things.

I am not a number, I am a free man!

I've been rewatching that over the couple weeks and I loved it as a kid but man oh man, I had no idea just how good that guy really was. He could go from incredibly dry and restrained to completely over-the-top theatrical-type emoting without missing a beat.

I also recently watched the first fifteen or so minutes of Ice Station Zebra on TCM before deleting it from my DVR and adding it to my Amazon list. Man oh man was...oh, I already said that.

But yeah, he really was.

The Korean film The Good the Bad the Weird is one of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen.

Plus about another $6 for the shipping. I only paid roughly $16 for the movie itself, so that is a lot in the end when you consider what I only paid for the movie.

Either way, they should have never started doing this in the first place, especially since All That Heaven Allows comes in a 3-disc case as far as I know. That makes the decision to use digipacks for everything more mind boggling than doing these dual format releases in the first place.

In the end, I'm happy to have films like Foreign Correspondent and others that were recently released in digipacks for no reason on Blu-ray. No over-sized packaging can change that. This whole thing is just really silly.

Eh, they tried something, people didn't like it, they said 'okay, never mind'.

The system worked.

It looks like they only offer a few replacement cases in the Criterion shop. I was interested in getting bluray cases for Bottle Rocket and Chungking Express but I only see the former on the website.

im finally at a point i feel like i got "most" criterions that i "want".

if someone is interesstet in what i got just take a look at my collection
its probably only stuff most people always talk about and want or already got in there own collection..

this sale i went a little nuts with italian movies.. i hated them only a while ago. but la notte changed my mind...

It does. Even weirder is that the double hub is on the right, so they've got the Blu-ray and the first DVD on the double hub while the second DVD is on the single hub under the booklet. While I prefer having the Blu-ray on the right side (dexter side, not correct side) so as not to have booklets/inserts in the way, the OCD part of me wants to put the Blu-ray by itself and the two DVDs together.

True, but they abandoned it so quickly, and now we'll be likely seeing re-releases not that far after they were released in digipacks. That is what makes it all silly. They could have at the very least put them in 3-disc cases so they go with the majority of the rest of the collection and take up less shelf space.
