Seems to me that I noticed it pop up on Netflix sometime within the past couple of weeks. Almost immediately after Robin Williams died, several of his movies popped up in the "Popular on Netflix" category. The Fisher King showed up in that list later.

I've celebrated my day off on Labor Day by watching The Inn of the Sixth Happiness, which is an excellent Ingrid Bergman film.

Later today, I plan to watch The Legend of Hell House.

For those of you who are fans of the upcoming Criterion title, The Innocents, it's worth noting that Pamela Franklin, who played one of the children in that movie also appears in The Legend of Hell House.

Watched the Lego Movie with my little boy earlier today.
It is an amazing movie! So fun, so funny, and with a fantastic commentary on modern society. It is a seriously smart movie, with an excellent message as well. The voice acting is all uniformly stellar. And the visual style is unique and stunning. One of my favorite movies of the year.

(I understand that this isn't Criterion related, I simply feel the need to talk about great films in general in this thread, with my fellow cinephiles)

Random question: Why is Army of Shadows the cheapest OOP?

I bought it for $45 new down-town today (I'm on holiday and have currently bought 3 Criterions and 2 criterion boxsets). I've seen it before and it's equally as good as other OOPs: Chungking Express, Le Cercle Rouge, Pierrot le Fou and The Third Man.

Howard's End and Leon Morin tend to be cheaper. In the case of Howards End it was out for ages before going OOP.

Hey all! Pardon this quick, and out of the blue question, but does anyone recall when the fall Criterion flash-sale usually takes place? September or October? Or does it vary?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen too many Criterion DVDs, but the ones I have seen have been rather impressive, considering what the studio had to work with. Therefore, you can't really go wrong with it.

The film is also available on Hulu if you want to go that route (which is quite good, as well).

It expired today, actually. I watched it last night because it said "available till september 1st." It's pretty mawkish and kind of annoying and it goes on way too long, I was not very impressed. It was saved by the actors, I really liked Jeff Bridges and Amanda Plummer. I'm not a big Gilliam fan in general, though. It has some good scenes, but it seemed like it could have lost about a half an hour without suffering too much. I'm not sure what my problem is with Gilliam; only 12 Monkeys (and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but that doesn't really count, does it?!) has really grabbed me. I remember liking Fear & Loathing when I was a teenager, and Brazil isn't bad, but everything else I've seen has either bored or annoyed me.

Have there been any details leaked about a Time Bandits release?

No idea, I just stopped waiting for a good region A release and got the Arrow one cause it was on sale last week for 5 pounds. If you have a region free player or one that can do the top menu trick I'd highly recommend it, it's a really stunning transfer.

I was a happy camper when it came to the picture quality of my old Criterion DVD of L'Avventura. If I were you, though, I'd wait for the Blu-ray, because it's so close to release. The Blu-ray will probably turn a BMW into an Aston Martin.

The Fall ones have generally been very late September to early October: September 24th in 2012, October 1st in 2013.

I'm curious what you guys think of the later films in the set. I enjoyed most of the earlier films more than the last few.
